I used to live in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the home of the famouse Snow Birds airbatic team. One of my friends was a Huey driver there. He drove the rescue chopper and quite often they of course went on training missions. Well this friend of mine had a girlfriend that lived on a farm in there training area and quite often he would buzz the farm to say hello. Well one day his girlfriend asked if he would come out after work to help her ailing father move a couch to her aunt's farm.
Well....he was doing a training flight that afternoon and decided to drop in on her, load the couch into the chopper and fly it to her aunt's farm. Very cool way to impress the girlfriend eh? Of course this is highly illegal and really frowned upon....no really.....frowned upon! Well he drops in on the farm, picks up the couch (impressing his girlfriend all to heck) and takes off.
well guess what happens....our Hueys were, well lets be kind....old peices of crap! Oh yeah....flying junk piles.....often described as ten thousand parts flying in loose formation. Well it decides (half way there) that it no longer wants to fly. He is forced to put it down in the middle of an open field, which is easy to find in Saskatchewan. He has no choice but to radio in for help. No where to hide the couch of course, and no Huey that I have ever seen came equiped with one either. To say the least, he was put on the carpet in a most nasty way, and was grounded for some time while they did a complete investigation, etc. He was eventually cleared to fly again, but he has decided that he is no longer in the furniture moving business.
