A boon for electrics
« on: December 08, 2009, 10:26:30 AM »
Saw this in Yahoo news today. Now this could really be cool in an electric system.

That is amazing Randy! This will change the face of alot of things e-powered. And just think, when you order your 4-5 string 4800mAh batterys, they will be shipped to you in an stamped envelope! ~>

The possibilities are endless, with this new technology!

Hmmm, if I read that correctly they won't come IN an envelope , they will be shipped AS the envelope!

Probably shipped like everything else electronic these days - in a blister pack that can only be opened with a chain saw and a fire axe.

My thought was just that you wouldn't have to worry about that heavy battery pack. Suddenly, electrics become pretty cool from a weight perspective. Of course, each battery "pack" will cost the moon... Oh wait, that's true now.   ;D

The concept is pretty cool and we may see a huge surge in battery technology in the next little bit.

Will this mean that we will start seeing really looong nosed airplanes, due to this amazing weight loss program(or a bunch of lead being used)? Or a lot of really short tail moment designs? ???

Fascinating. I also note that the researchers are Ying Cui (lead engineer), Peidong Yang, Liangbing Hu, JangWook Choi, and Yuan Yang, all at Stanford and Berkeley. Do you think from this fact we can make some deductions about policy for supporting engineering in US undergraduate programs?

Think about maybe the only thing they ship is the nanotube solution. You use it under the silkspan and the wings become the battery.

Maybe we will have paper airplanes in our future? (engines not included)!
