92 Cardinal Flys Again!
« on: May 17, 2020, 05:50:57 PM »
Today Will Demauro went out flying after we used up all of the electrons. We decide to fly Windy’s 92 Cardinal! It flew pretty good and the only thing I don’t like is the clean up after! (My preference)

Remember the plane and that flying site fondly!
Many hours devouring Windy’s videos.

What a beautiful model that was, with its wrap around header and piped Big Jim ST51 Hemi. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I thought Zuriel Armstrong had that plane? How did you find it? Glad it’s still flying. Thanks for sharing. I sent this thread to Windy.

Howdy Paul. I had the plane for 15 or so years.  Took it to Paducah last year and passed off to James Mills. Glad to see it in the air again. I last flew it with an OS52 four stroke.

Paul,
Zuriel gave the plane to James Mills. James asked if I wanted because it was an East coast history. I, of course wanted to have to restore to fly at least on more time and we accomplished that! I got a Big Jim 51 from Jose and a tank from Jimmy Damerell. Then had to find some fuel and a glow driver, which Will Demauro found one! Jose did have the wrap around header and pipe, however the holes were cover over and I didn't want to cut it open. Overall the plane flew pretty good and with some trimming and tank shims would be pretty competitive. I guess I will hold on to it for 2 more years and use it in N30  :)

Thanks
Joe

Joe,

Happy I could be a part.  Zueriel deserves a shout out as well.  Maybe I'll take a flight on it next time we come to NY.

As I mentioned, when I got my PA 51 Winfred gave it to me...maybe end of '93?
I flew it a half dozen times and it just about tore my arm out. I gave it back...
I suppose I could have trimmed it some, but Windy said it was good to go, so I didn't.

Given I had a chance to fly with IC. I decided to converted to electric. Saw the 92 cardinal now has a cobra 3515 - 740 KV motor. We got out this morning and had a chance to fly it. If you really good, I am surprised on how well it flew actually. It came out to weigh 69 ozs, the same as take off weigh full of fuel. Here are few shots of today’s action.

I had an opportunity to fly that plane today and thoroughly enjoyed the flight. For those who are interested we averaged about 2000mah out of the 2800 mah battery which comes out to about 71% so this set up was very well matched.
