7.00mm Spinner Adapter for Brodak Aluminum Spinner??
« on: November 24, 2012, 04:25:58 PM »

My Enya 45II has a 7mm shaft and I am looking for an adapter to use with a Brodak Spinner

I got this adapter
http://brodak.com/shaft-extension-adapter-for-saito-engines.html

But it did not work, the engine shaft is not long enough.

So I need  your help to find a prop nut with 7.00mm thread for the engine and the 1/4 thread for the spinner tip.

Martin,

I needed a special nut also.

Dick Pacini came to my rescue. Here's the link to the Thread.

Dick does incredible work. Does it once, does it right.

Possibly he will come to your rescue?

Good luck!

Martin, sketch up what you want and I will make you one.  I have some 1/2" hex aluminum left and can use that stock if OK with you.  Make a sketch, scan it and email it to me.  That would be the fastest.  Either that or make a written description and I will ask you questions if not clear.

 A Tru-turn 7mm adapter might work.

Tru-Turn products are great, but their adapters only fit the SHCS's that their (and probably Dave Brown's) spinners use. I don't recall if that's 8-32 or 10-24.  The Brodak and Randy Aero spinners don't use a SHCS in the nose (and look a lot slicker as a result), with 1/4-28 threads machined into the tip piece. I have had some problems with the tip threads being too short, and got it done with a coupler nut from Ace Hardware.

I'm really not a big fan of aluminum prop nuts...lots would be made from 6061-T6, which I don't think is wonderful enough for long term durability. Pull the threads out at a contest and you're screwed, unless you want to carry spares. Steel is more reliable for this task, but 7075-T6 would be a lot better than 6061. Depends on how critical weight is, and whether your plane is tailheavy or noseheavy, of course. If it's already noseheavy, a touch more tail weight won't be a huge deal to most of us.   H^^ Steve
