40 Size Tsunami?

Hi everyone, I am thinking of building another Tsunami, a down sized one to be powered by a Randy Smith ST46. I would like to ask for suggestions on how to go about doing this. I welcome all the info you can throw at me. I tend to put a tremendous amount of work into each model I build and don't want to build in any design flaws or mistakes that will hinder flight performance. I Know there is 40 sized Tsunami plans out there and would appreciate hearing from anyone that has built and flown one or is familiar with the design.      Kevin King.

That model is based on the Paternmaster design the same design, that design also inspired the Cardinals and just about all of Windis designs. I would base the 40 size on the Cardinal 40 with modified wingtips and make the fuse scaled to imitate the Tsunami. Do some math to maintain the wing area the same. If you want to adventure a little move the elevator back 3/4-1in back and thin out the wing tip a little 2-3percent less overall thickness compared with the root. Things that will not hurt is geodesic wing construction airfoil on the stab maybe electric conversion a more torsional rigid flaps and elevator.

I recently purchased a Tsunami 40 plan from Bob's Your Uncle and that shows engine size as .36 to .51. Might be worth checking out.

Im thinkin the Tsunami is Strega dervitive , or V c V . As theyve both goot the ten i9nch thick wing . ( a bit less perhaps , but near .  )


Whacking a REAL P M 60 down to 57 span , 89% full size .. If , as they say - it is the ideal size for a D S 60 lite , the engines still WIDE & maybe still wants 1/2 Sq Bearers . This is Annoying .


Theres a fred ( some might say THREAD , on the CARDINAL 40  . Ends up being the 92 Cardinal - minus the Center Rib Bays .

Therefore , if you built a ' built up ' cardinal 40 ,, with the ' tsunami ' lumps & bobs , youd be close to what your after , straight of the board .

Id either do the 92 Airfoil trick , or photocopy @ 89% the full size one , if ya gotta tourquey motor .

I figured the PM @ 89% to get a " P M .46 " for the ST 21/46 if built light, or to put the FSR 40 to use , for ' any weather ' use .

I flew with Windy most weekends and this model is first rate. Hope you shared this video with Windy. Amazing

My recommendation  is to start there
The plans are a work of Art
The wing is not based on the PM 60

The easiest thing would be to obtain a copy of Eliott Scott's "Tsunami 40", designed with Windy. 54" w/s, 36 to 51

You could also use the Cardinal ARF's 54" wing and kit-bash it to make it have the planform of the Tsunami.
