Title: 3D Printing ???

Anyone else print any useful items for CL?

I’m thinking engine offset pads for profiles? Maybe motor mounts for electrics?

Okie Air offers a 3D printed electric motor mount/front end. With the dozens of styles and sizes of tanks available in metal I'm sure one would be available to fit almost any application with out "scratch" designing one in CAD and then taking hours to print it.......

Lots that can done. My thought is that instead of PLA filament, use ABS filament. Stronger, more heat resistant. A bit harder to print with though since a cleaned heated enclosure with a heated bed is needed to keep it from warping.

Once I get some more stuff sorted, I'm thinking of starting a print-on-demand control line parts business.

I would not print anything for an IC engine mount from any of the plastics as creep will eventually happen due to pressure and heat. I have bellcranks, Log flap drives, motor mounts for electric (idea plagiarized from Tom Morris and addapted to my models) and I am also contemplating utilization in a model. For high strength I'm using a carbon fiber impregnated nylon which is a bit tricky to work with and doesn't glue well but is super strong and heat resistant. I have found an ABS variant of this and have hopes for good bonding which will be what is necessary for airplane construction. Think ribs and support parts for bellcranks and such. My printer isn't large enough to do landing gear but they could easily be done using the CF/nylon. Everything I do, I will supply to anyone who requests it.

I’m getting up to speed in a CAD program. I enjoy drawing stuff up almost a much as watching it print. 🤣

There are some people printing propellers. And there are some people printing propellers and having failures. It’s doable but if’n it were me, I wouldn’t. Having said that, one could print a propeller to be turned in to a mold for fiberglass or carbon fiber. I have a couple of those in my doing stuff queue. It’d be a fairly big effort and be easier to just pull a mold off of a Rev Up or other prop.
