Our new smoother, clearer, simpler video hangout system-starting Friday

Tonight(Thursday) we held a test run of our new video streaming software. It no longer requires you to have a special app, just any browser is all you need, with mic and camera if you want to participate in the video. Or just use the Appear chatbox if you prefer.

It has much better video and audio quality, holds more visitors, and doesn't have the jerky transitions switching between talkers. It's much more like we're all hanging out in the same room or workshop.

The Youtube recordings are much smoother too. Those who prefer only to watch anonymously live on the 'Tube can still participate in  the 'Tube's chatbox just like before. And reruns will still be available.

We are going to go live with it for the first time Friday evening. Sure, we'll be working some glitches out as we learn to use it, but not nearly as much as we did with Google hangouts.

I hope this'll inspire more folks to join us and talk modeling and flying. So I hope some new folks will give it a try, and after watching our show will decide to come in and participate. We usually start between 9:30 and 9:45pm Eastern time every Monday and Friday. The show runs for about 3 hours.

I am posting this tonight in the "Open" forum to help spread the word, but as usual, the announcement for each show will still be in the "At the Bench" thread. I post it right at the moment when we go live.

P.S. We will be holding a winter build-off, starting soon. We'll watch each other as we build a plane or any kind of model. We will compare notes and methods and share our different ways of doing things. The more the better.

The new "Appear.in" conferencing site really is higher quality, both audio and video. Too bad we stopped feeding to the 'Tube after Sparky signed off, so maybe we'll fix that by Monday night. See you then on our next show. The same URL, "https://appear.in/stunt-hangar" will always get you into the live feed. And it's also watchable on the Stunt Hangar.com 'Tube channel.

I hope there weren't too many people unsuccessfully trying to join us, but it shouldn't take too many sessions to work through the glitches. At least Minnesota Mike could join via Appear's chatbox. Appear is still in the Beta stage of development, so it should gradually improve. I hope they'll start listing names on the faces and in the chatbox.
