3 blade props
« on: April 13, 2006, 09:52:59 PM »
Anyone out there know where I can get 3 blade props with a 3, 4, or 5 pitch?  The lowest I've been able to find is a 6.

If you go with the Bollys they are available.  No inexpensive 3 blades in 4 itch anymore.  Phil C. has repitched the Master Airscrew poprs.

There was a Tornado 3 blade in 10-4 "black" that I like, but they are hard to find.

I have been talking to Master Airscrew / Windsor propellor and the are going to make some more 3 blades. I did start a survey on the SS website as I don't think I had signed up here yet. I took the printouts over to them and am hoping the will come out with 10x5, 10x4, and 11x5,and 11x4. Will let you know if anything comes of it. If Jeff sells enough , maybe he will produce more. His price range of $8.00 > $10.00 for these sizes would allow more flyers to experiment.

I just bought an Evolution 3 blade prop from the LHS, it is a 10 x 4.  It looks lik a cut down version of a larger diameter prop.  I don't know yet how it will work but since the thread is about 3 blade props I thought Id ask if anyone has experience with it.

I have used one of these on my Brodak Zero with mixed results. First they are unbalanced and you will have to take care of that. The 3 that I bought were all about the same .
I didn't have a pitch guage at the time and have just bought a new Prather so I can't say with certainty that they are really a 4 inch pitch.
Flying it was allright but the performance was not an improvement over a 2 bladed set up. Tension was deminished  although the plane didn't get real light on the overheads. I didn't have time to keep playing with it and went back to a conventional prop. Motor was an OS 40FP on Powermaster 10/22

had the same experience with the evolution prop as Dennis, same engine and fuel Nothing at the top . Changed the pitch to 5 inches and it was to much prop for my FP 40.

the evolution props have a terrible blade shape.  I think they were designed to keep the speed down on RC trainers, while soaking up the excess power.  Not really what we want.

I didn't get to ti on my last post but I took one of the props and modified the tips, rounded them and really cleamed the blades up. Hopefully I'll get to try it soon. The thig is they make these really nice spinners that fit the prop like a glove with those perfectly round cuts for the hubs. It's hard to improve on that. Now if it only wasn't held together by screws perhaps even Mr Rabe would be interested in them]
