Do you think we can break last years record of 255 Ringmaster flights, the first weekend in October?

I'll see if I can find the one that I finished putting together.  It was built and covered, but, never glued together.  Hope TOPCLASS has something planned.  Also does it count if more than one person flies the RM?  DOC Holliday

Doc --- If you have only one Ringmaster there and 30 people fly it that is 30 flights. If someone solos on the Ringmaster that counts as two flights.

The closest thing I have to a Ringmaster is the Bassmaster. I have already been told it does not qualify.

The more the merrier! We had flyers from 5 countries last year, including WC David Fitzgerald flying one in Brazil! It's all in the name of FUN and hopefully more will have more FUN this year than ever! And, hopefully, we will pick up more new flyers and re-treads to join this wonderful hobby/sport of ours. Nothing wrong with a trusty Ringmaster!

Phil: Bassmaster? Is that a singing Billy Bass with a Ringmaster wing?  LL~

I just saw this notice about this time last week and quickly got started on my own variation of the Ringmaster.

It will be another sheet wing 1/2a variation loosely based around an idea Larrey Renger put forward for a Kwikee Stunt event (see the 1/2a forum for details). Wingspan is just a shade over 28 inches, will use an AP 061 for power, projected all up weight should be less than 10 ounces ready to fly.

Construction is moving along well and I will post pictures here and on the Brotherhood of the Ring site when complete.

The weather moving in October in this part of the continent can be rather variable but I do plan on getting out God willing and river don't rise.

cheers, Graham in Ottawa Canada

Richard,

It should come as no surprise that I plan (weather permitting) to put up some Ringmaster flights for the Fly-A-Thon!!!  LOL

Jim Swearingen and I will have ten or so different Ringmasters to fly and we plan a bit of "pursuit combat" as well as regular flights.

We will fly at Hobby Hideaway on Oct. 3rd and would like to welcome anyone who is interested to join us. Dave Shipton's Hobby Hideaway is a unique model airplane "haven" which has to be seen to be appreciated. It is located in a big barn and features a single grass circle surrounded on two sides by crop land. This year it is planted in corn that is around ten feet tall and along with the barn can make for some very tricky wind hazards (don't ask how I know this). Dave used to have an active "mail order Hobby Shop" operating from the barn and now it is a kind of model museum just chocked full of models, kits, parts and so on. Two floors FULL!

The location is near Peoria/Bloomington, Illinois. and approximately half way between St Louis and Chicago.

It would sure be nice if some of you Midwest control line fliers would make the pilgrimage to Hobby Hideaway to fly with us. If you don't have a Ringmaster you are welcome to fly one of mine.

Hobby Hideaway was written up in the April issue of Control Line World and more information and a map as to where it is located is in the following link:

http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=12047.0;prev_next=next

Hope to meet some of you on Oct. 3rd for a fun Fly-A-Thon!!

Thats sounds inviting John! I think I'm driving to La., to attend my HS homecoming fb game on Friday nite, and will return to the rear of the school on Saturday to fly Ringmasters once again, after 33+ years since flying there! Should be a neat little trip down memory lane! I'll have to get the wife to pit for me since my old flying buddy passed about 3 years ago.. Maybe Frank from Savanah will drive over?? NOT! lol

Well, this is the weekend! Good luck on promoting CL flying, and I hope we all have fun doing it!

Be sure to send your flight reports to: ringmasterflyathon-2009@yahoo.com

Burn some castor(or electrons), and lets break last year's record!

Edit: We in SE Texas are in for a pretty crummy weekend! Seems the tropical storm in the Pacific is sending its remains towards the Gulf! We will still do our best...

Howdy,

The Alameda Aer-O-Nuts of the San Francisco Bay Area will be doing our darnedest to rack up a huge flight total.

Is anybody out there going for the "fastest Ringmaster"?

Everyone is welcome, of course, to come and fly.  For directions or info: rbush88atjunodotcom or PM

Randy

  • Fly a Ringmaster in Alameda this weekend!

    Worldwide Ringmaster Fly-a-thon 2009

If you have any form of Ringmaster, please bring it. But the main thing is to come out and put up some flights on somebody's RM.

In the true spirit of this "Sterling" design -- we are all about quantity over quality this weekend.  And fun above all!

Please see the attached flyer about the worldwide Ringmaster Fly-a-thon. Could the Bay Area produce more RM flights than anyone else?

    When?
Sunday we will have several Ringmasters available, starting about 8:30am.
Flights on Saturday count toward our total; however, we aren't certain that any planes will be there.

 Randy;

I tried to walk away from this one to no avail. I am not trying to start anything here only setting the record straight.
The Ringmaster never was a Sterling Design. It was considered one because they kitted it as the S1 Ringmaster. The Ringmaster was designed by Matt Kania.
OK I have my flame suit on go ahead and take a shot fellas.   LL~ LL~ LL~
Now with that said this is the first day of the 2nd Annual Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon. Lets get out there and beat last years number.

We had great weather in N E Oklahoma on Saturday and eight pilots with several variations of Ringmasters came out to play. I think we got in at least 20 flights.

I put in two flights on Saturday with my bride as co-pilot. Very breezy , lost a prop on a vertical eight bottom on the first flight but second flight went smoothly!

  • I may not always BOM- but I do the re-builds!
It was close but my buddy Tom and I managed to put 2 flights each on his Fox .25 powered S-1 before the sun went down. It wa his 1st time on the handle since I dragged him out last year for the event, and he did fine - but was a bit dizzy after the 2nd flight when I gave him a full 3oz, the Fox leaned out a bit and hauled the mail at a pretty good clip!

Had a Babe Bee powered Lil Stuntin Ringmaster along, but it was full of congealed goo and we couldn't get it fired up. We still did O.K - the S-1 had been hanging in his garage since last october, and after a plug change and needle valve/ tank flush it fired right up and hummed along.

Tally- 2 flight X 2 pilots for the Southchase Stumbling Stunt Runts!

Oh yeah- that's our new secret South Orlando flying site, a patch of sandy / bahaia clumped land across from the Southchase Library, behind the Nissan Dealer on OBT just north of the 417.
It was graded and prepped for some project  a year or so ago, no activity since. We had a few onlookers, and caused a bit of delay at the 4-way stop sign on the corner, but no police - so another sucessful Ringmaster Raid was carried out!

We had 3 RM's (1-Sterling S-1, 1-Sterling Junior RM, and one Dee Rice RM) 2 pilots 6 RM flights plus a variety of other CL planes flown on Sunday.  Not bad for an RC club. We currently have only 2 active CL flyers.  We were the only ones flying, the RC guys thought it was too windy.

« Reply #34 on: October 06, 2009, 01:08:35 PM »
We were short by 8 flights this year of breaking the record! 247 was the count!Thats pretty good, considering it was like Seattle, everywhere but Seattle this time, with the rain!

Edit:I just received 2 emails from Mike Wada of Hawaii with indicating an additional 28 flights, so the record has been broken!Way to go guys! I will extend the reporting deadline a little to see if anymore suprises pops up!

Thanks everyone for your participation, and I hope all had fun in the process. FUN is what this exercise was really about! No cheap wood and plastic trophy to stress over... Hopefully next year, some of the stuffed shirts out there will let their hair down and have some FUN too!Friendships, old and new, and fellowship. Life's too short!

The PC Flyers in Fresno, CA would like to add 3 Ringmaster flights! We used my 40 year old patched and rebuilt RM to give introductory flights to two new prospective members. They had a ball, and my RM survived! We will be getting two new members; and they are not Old Farts. A dad about 35-40 and his son about 13. Great new blood, thanks to the Ringmaster!
