Over on the combat facebook site the proposed site for the championship is shown . Latvia is the possible host . You might brush up on flying off grass .

The scuttle butte had said Spain or Mongolia. Does this seem more likely?

Interesting how a mis-quote taken out of context can become some sort of imaginary reality! n~

No more boredum! How about Ukraine? They could use all the tourist dollars this event attracts.....

That video is 5 years old Brad. I don’t think it’s being suggested for the 2024 WC.

I find it incredible that in 2023 we don't know who will be hosting the 2024 WCh, not to mention this year's Team Trials. Or did I miss something?

For trials, this is what I have heard (doesn't mean that it is right though):
F2A - weekend before the Nats at Muncie
F2B - Houston is putting in a bid for Columbus Day weekend in October
F2C - in discussion. Discussions around using the Nats or having another contest.
F2D - weekend before the Nats at Muncie
Rumors around the World Champs is interesting. Manpower is definitely an issue. It takes a lot to run that contest.

You would make a great team manager Tom!

That's what I think.

Oh, that would not be a pretty picture. Besides, I'm still trying to fly. Not sure that my F2B skills will ever get there though. I think I started too late.

Thanks for sharing the info, Tom.
Can anyone else corroborate the Houston F2B report? Some of us (a minority here, clearly) have to put in for vacation ahead of time...
-
Mike I can't really elaborate but Frank Williams expressed interest in doing it again and I assume is putting forth a bid. I don't know of any other bids. When Houston did it before it was in October to take advantage of the slightly cooler weather then. (still in the 90's when it was very cold at home). They did a GREAT job the first time. Don't know when any final decision will be announced. It's anyones guess when the FAI Gods will make a choice for the Worlds. Seems to me they have a spring meeting annually or something like that. Bring your patience and toll change for Houston traffic!

AFAIK, Frank has submitted the proposal for Houston on Columbus Day weekend. The decision on where the trials should be held is in the hands of the F2B Team Selection Committee (i.e., Randy Smith). Not sure when a decision will be coming from the committee, perhaps you could ask Randy.

Bill
PS: If you have FAI-related questions, I can probably give some answers.
E.g, that "spring meeting annually or something like that." is called the Plenary Meeting and will be held the end of March. Used to be an in-person meeting, but with the pandemic, it has become a Zoom meeting. The Plenary is where, among other activities, all of the rules that have been proposed are voted on by the FAI Delegates (one per member country).
Rules for a discipline (e.g., Control Line) are only voted on in the year where the discipline has its World Championship. Rule changes normally (a few exceptions) go into effect Jan 1 of the following year. That leaves a year plus for a rule to be enforced before it is used at a WCHs. SO, a rule passed this year (no CL rules! Not voted on this year!) will go into effect Jan 1, 2024
If you want to spend a lot of time and perhaps get a bit of knowledge. all of the rules that we live by in the FAI program are available on the FAI website.

Hey, Tom! Why don't you put in a bid for late October to host the F2C Trials! :-) Two weeks after the F2B trials, a week after Fall Finale in Dallas. Perfect!

All rumors aside, as of this date, there are no offers to host the 2024 F2 World Championships. This from a source within the FAI hierarchy.

There was a discussion a year or two ago about trying to bring it here. I spoke to Joyce at AMA about it then and she said she was sure the Counsel would get on board and get excited about it.......Even cut loose some money for improvements.........
