2022 Nats
« on: January 10, 2022, 12:37:57 PM »
Today I received an email from AMA requesting info from the Event Director concerning the daily schedule,  fees structure etc. by January 31st.  This is so they can build the Nats webpage entry forms and go live by March 1st.  We still have NO named Event Director.   Someone needs to step up immediately so planning can begin in earnest.  I will also be sending an email to most recent participants in the next few days as well.  If you have been sitting on the fence about it this is the time.  I think we would like to have a Nats this year but of course there is trout fishing.....

Yikes! The crickets are deafening!

Okay, I'm not afraid of the elephant in the room… Those of you who routinely fly at the Nats but have not yet volunteered to take a turn in the barrel and officiate for a year or two, get off the pot! Yes, I did mix a couple of metaphors there... You love this sport? Then take one for the team and be the Event Director for at least a year. I could list several fliers here who have not yet taken a turn at the helm. This boat will eventually sink if you don't. STEP UP! AMA will not wait forever for us to find a director. You certainly don't want them to appoint someone who doesn't have a clue about how our event is run, nor do you want them to just cancel the event this year because we could not come up with someone on our own.

Dave,
Just set a deadline  for a volunteer. If no one steps up by then, cancel this years event.

Paul I think that will be pretty close to January 31st or thereabouts.  I won't be able to delay AMA's plans for long.  Not sure the ramifications;  will they attempt to run the event without us?  will they de-list PAMPA as the official SIG?  will they just allow us to take the year off?  They sort of did that with the other groups who cancelled due to Covid in the past year or two.  I have other business to talk to AMA about tomorrow .  I will float the possibility with them and try to get a feel for it.

Guys, this has been a major issue for too many years. However, if we don't fill the slot and cancel for 2022, I see it never returning. Joe Daly and I are working on a different approach by considering having a few more folks take smaller pieces, making the ED's role much more appealing.  This is a crucial time for CL Stunt and PAMPA.  Throwing in the towel is not the answer. Give us a few days to construct a new organizational chart for our one week in Muncie.

Everyone,
I would like to thank Dave Trible as well as all previous EDs for leading the way with our NATS and hope that I can help make 2022 a worthwhile venture for those that attend and those that are watching.  More to follow as we start pulling together the team of volunteers that really make the event happen.

Let me add my thanks to all the others, John. I know that you have served in the past in some official capacity, so you really should have had a pass on this one. There are many who have never served but continue to come to the Nats and take advantage of the service of others like yourself. Perhaps this will change in the future...

Again, thanks - Bob Hunt

The NATS deserves support from all Control Line fliers. Thanks to everyone who has been there and supported the NATs. Great event.
