2021 Nationals CLPA video Part I & II
« on: July 06, 2021, 09:45:39 PM »
Whew. Got the video done. Hope you enjoy. I'm making another video sometime...start tomorrow maybe...of the top five flyoff. If you missed the classic video, it's on youtube too.

David

Okay, finally uploaded Part II. Not my best video work, but it's because I was focused on the wind speed during maneuvers. And, if anyone questions it, my anemometer has been checked against the wind speed gauges at my sailing club and it is very accurate.  I think the highlight, if memory serves, was one of Joe Gilbert's tricks being performed in 26mph wind.

Thank you for your great work on the video David. Lots of information here. I like the mix of stills, captions, and motion footage.  The wind sounds pretty nasty at times.

How about Wesley, how cool is that?
I see people my age out there climbing mountains and zip lining and here I am feeling good about myself because I got my leg through my underwear without losing my balance

I was glad to see him flying a smaller aeries. My dad is just a little behind him at 85 years, and I hint for him to think about switching to something smaller than his sixty size planes that don't pull so hard. And I had a great time talking with Wes too. That guy is full of so many stories!

Hard to overstate how hard Wes works to fly. He has been battling vertigo and stamina issues the past couple years.  This year first couple of times out he managed two 1/2 tank flights with a Ringmaster before feeling wore out.  Worked up to full tank flights then brought out the Ares, then worked up to 4 flights per session.  Started doing just the horizontal maneuvers then into the verticals and finally the overhead & clover.  He flies a little fast so he doesn't have to back-up.  Doctor tweaked his diet, including adding lots of salt to improve his stamina.  Its all working out great for him!

He's also a great flying buddy & coach...

I don't know if Wes realizes how he can inspire others. I'm not near his age and starting to deal with some of the same issues, and knowing that there are guys like him and the late Lew Woolard that just keep on going tells you that it's possible. I hope he's got another 10 years left in him! What's the record for the oldest NATS contestant???
   Keep on flying Wes!!
