My facebook was hacked again yesterday.
« on: March 31, 2017, 07:10:20 AM »
I got word from three people that there was a barrage of bogus facebook traffic from me starting at about 4 PM Thursday, March 30.

The attack commenced precisely when I made a comment in favor of The Senate's vote to return abortion funding to the former status of a States' Rights issue.

Thanks to those who reported this to me.  I changed my picture to air refueling the C-5A.

If anybody knows of any effective countermeasures, other than just dropping FB, please reply.

I don't have facebook and have tried in vain to get my kids to get off the thing.  I remember my dad telling me (before all this was possible) "when you tell everyone your business then they are smarter than you".  Recently I was simply texting back and forth with one daughter about a house she was trying to buy.  Within a few minutes I was getting pop-ups about buying houses and mortgages.  Sure makes me feel like being violated.  Wish I could  just unplug and forget it.  I've seen the girls be very upset all day about something stupid somebody put on their facebook.  Can't grasp why they still keep it.

there is a common misconception that needs clarification here,
what is happening is that your account is being cloned, not hacked
being hacked means they are INSIDE your account and can access all your info,
being cloned means they steal a picture, create a fake account ( that is not tied to , or affiliated with, your account.
The purpose is to garner your friend list by sending them invites, and then innundate them with some form of spam.

so your account was not hacked, it was cloned, your information has not been compromised in your account any more than people seeing what you post is
also, texting, and messenger on facebook are totally seperate, messenger can do just like your browser does, and it triggers what pages you look at with cookies so they can tailor the ads you see to match yoru interest, its how web sites, and facebook pay for their existance, no I dont like it either, but its a reality.
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

Thanks for explaining that.

I have tried to use the published procedure for dealing with this, but I can't get to first base.
I can't find the cloned account.  Maybe they launched one barrage and wiped it.
I have feedback from six people thus far.  They seem to be getting to classic money-grubbing SPAM, linked to me.

As before, I changed my logo picture again.

Quitting FB is one option, but maybe that's exactly what my political enemies want.

No politics involved in this statement, just a fact.  It is going to get worse now that any regulation of personal online data harvesting is ended.  I predict big brother will end up using character logs to track everything we write in addition to what we read and what sites we visit.

I don't care who reads & quotes my posts.  If I didn't want to spread it, I wouldn't post it.

There is so much FB traffic nobody ever sees much of it anyway.

I'm just going on record that things posted under my logo since 4 PM Thursday came from somebody else.

I guess this is one way for leftists to drive real Americans off "social media".   They already heckle us out of public places.

Delete your cookies once in a while.  It helps getting rid of targeted ads.  Also delete your history once in a while.

Thanks for the advice & guidance.  The FB process for taking down a bogus page is not easy.

I finally got through all the steps.  I guess I need to just wait & see if the bogus page goes down or maybe my real page will go down, too.

If so, I can live without it.

It seems like this "cloning" is getting common enough that FB needs to devise a real countermeasure.

I would be flattered if someone, anyone, would pay attention to my facebook page.

I guess I have no friends.
