Me? It'll be back to work on the Don Hutchinson P-38.
Well, In Tucson our primary flying season is approaching...actually it's here! Building season is mostly year round but more active in summer...Too hot to fly past 9:00AM in summer, but we do sometimes!
Unfortunately we're out of sync with most of the world!

Brodak Smoothie is what I'm building now and it will go on for a few months especially if I do something like silk & dope it which it has been years since those days, Monokote is my go to.

I just finished my Nomad X and have started on scratch building a stock Twister. Year round building here also in south La. Next up is building a fuselage for a crashed Thunderbird.

I'm debating. I'm thinking real strongly about Don Hutchinson's piper cub. I got the plans and he emailed me a lot of cool info about it. That should be my priority. Well that and learning how to paint. I have applied covering, and feel I got that down. But so far I've had someone else do the painting.
I think Hutch told me this was Dale Gleason's cub in the pic

well in reality there is no building season for me. I'm usually building or repairing year round when it is too windy, rainy or hot. finishing the Mig and the DOC Special. H^^

I also do not have a separate building season. Unless I am sick, injured/damaged, flying, or off doing home owner chores I spend some time every day in my shop(s)
never any less than 3 or 4 unfinished projects
Nobler ARF various stages of assembly...lost interest for a bit
Same with Brodak ARF P40
Lots of activity stripping and refinishing a ARF Primary Force
Recently got 2 NIB Cox Magnesium speed pans and have a couple of neat TeeDees ....Ha before reading and learning, I spent some effort making one all pretty and shiny mirror finish...took a photo or two then put up ... just looked... hummm magnesium corrodes pretty darned fast if you don't coat it
Might be a candidate to polish back up and try thin skim of Crystal Clear

Vector 40....I'm about 1/2 finished with the wing and I'm a slow builder. Hope to have it ready for trim flights by March. (Maybe) This also is my first electric C/L.

I finally got a set of plans from the old "Air Trails" (1949 issue) magazine. The DH-4 was , as I have mentioned in the Carrier section the plane that my father was flying in France in 1918 when he was shot down and rescued by an Australian company. Right now I plan on building 2 of this plane, one a Class 1 Carrier plane and the other, a profile for NW Sport .40 Profile Carrier. As I write this I have now gone a whole ear without being able to fly a control line plane. My fiends have told me to keep building and they will fly whatever I want them take up. Without the support of these guys my life would be empty as far as modeling might be.

Just finished the build portion of my Humongous. I have it covered and doped with silkspan. Biggest dilemma now is how I want to do the paint scheme. I'm going to keep it simple and light......Gene

Finishing my path ? finder( Elwin calls it a bearfinder) rebuild .Then starting new fuselage for a score that the nose started unglueing itself

Since I destroyed my latest stunt plane in August, I'm attempting to get a Dreadnought in the air for the 2018 season. This crazy "cold snap" in SC has kept my garage below 32 degrees for weeks, and I can only work for so long before I get uncomfortable, needless to say my progress is SLOW!

I'm waiting on temps to rise enough so I can finish spraying the DOC Special. Hey Don, Lowes, Home Depot and Sutherlands sell a little natural gas heater that works great for me in my shop.

Hey fellow CLFLYER ...... Are you going with the traditional Fox .35 stunt engine and a 10/6 paddle blade Top Flite prop? I built my Smoothie (Veco kit) in 1956 and used a 1956 era Fox .35 stunt. I found it to be a great combination for a 16 year old kid building his first full body stunter.........ah, those were the days ! ...... D>K H^^

October was my reentry into control line flying. I started with a Brodak ARF Ringmaster and then set up shop and built my first big plane, the Twister. For 2018 I am currently looking for something powered by a .46 size engine to build. Tim

Responding to an earlier post. I really like Hutchinson's Cub. I built mine from plans, but decided on a full-fuselage. Otherwise, the numbers follow Hutch's design. Added some decals available from SIG. OS46LA powered.

Thanks Floyd. Nice looking plane. I'm building a box car chief now, and I'll cover it as a faux cub.

Gonna do my best and run up to the Piston Popper building session tomorrow (Jan 14) at the Blaine MN EAA building. Many projects laying around begging for attention but I'll probably bring up a Sig Skyray 35 and use the laser cut balsa ribs Eric Rule cut for me. I'll have to look but I don't think I got any balsa spars to substitute for the spruce ones.
If I don't have or can't pick up some 1/4" balsa I may bring my Brodak Magician kit to start. However - I think my CA supplies have dried up. Got some Sigbond but that will take a bit longer.
It's predicted to get down to -11 overnight and I don't relish packing up everything (after I find them first) in the car and driving over in sub-zero weather.

As far as your Skyray goes, FWIW I've been using spruce spars in everything for years now. I feel like they make for a much stronger finished wing with no significant weight difference.

Speaking of being only slightly killed, there was a post above about spraying near a space heater. If it has an open flame or even red-hot electric elements I reckon the outcome could be unhappy. Several years ago a house painter was spraying with lacquer inside a house under construction in my neighborhood. The fumes ignited, the entire house exploded in flames, the painter was killed, and the house burned to the ground. Apparently a gas heater element ignited the mix. This is one reason I paint outdoors, since the water heater and furnace in my garage are both natural gas powered and have open flames when they kick on. Better to have some bugs in the finish than be dead.

I am working on REvolutions and this weekend I am starting the good stuff. Today is the first molding, more of raw material prep rather than mold, I am making the carbon balsa carbon plates. They will become root ribs and fuselage formers.
