Once again the lock in feature totally unnecessary adds to the expense, adds to the weight and slows down pitch work. Prather got it right with just a simple straight slot.

Actually Prather  did  not get it right, many of the Prather gauges rock, this makes it very difficult to read , when the mount rocks side to side, even a tiny amount, its makes reading and setting pitch near impossible, the fix was to make the prop mount piece wider on both sides so it cover the milled slots on both sides.
This part is way better and way more stable than the stock unit, We made these from aluminum and delrin, both worked perfectly

Motorman, you have no idea what you are talking about.   And I have no idea why you insist on bashing something you have nothing at all to do with!!!!  Why don't you just go comment on someone elses thread.

My Prathers, yes I have two, rock back and forth as Randy describes terribly! I have to hold it just right to get the same reading on each side. It is a pain in the ass. And the two don't read the same prop the same. Luckily it's only used as a way to monitor changes made. The actual pitch means little it's the amount you change it and which way that matters. But with a gauge that is made with a slider like this and the reading gauge properly set on each and every one you could read prop to prop comparisons across the net and makes changes accordingly.

My prototype gas the t slot and I really like it.   It doesn't move at all.

Hi Doc,

I know Dave well, and suspect this is a one of a kind item for his personal use.  I do not believe it is being offered for sale.

Yeah, I've had one of Jim's replacement sliders for several years and it does indeed make a vast improvement in using the Prather gage.

This is the type of equipment I need for where I'm going. If your going to invest in Randy Smith custom motors, you need to have those competition props dialed in!!
Too bad they can't make more. But from the looks of it, this sure can't be easy to do.
