The Baton Rouge Bi-Liners(AMA club #5325) can now officially announce the 2016 Charlie Melancon Memorial Stunt contest following an agreement with the BREC Park system authorities this past week. They have agreed to designate a portion (4/6.4 ac.) of Doyle's Bayou Park as a control line flying site. We have an MOU agreement to work along side of the BREC grounds/maintenance people in maintaining the grounds on that portion of the park. They will identify this area as a C/L flying site with signs and a few rules. The address is 7801 Port Hudson-Pride Rd., Zachary, LA. 70791. This is a beautiful park with small fishing lakes in a rural setting. The location is about 10-11 mi. north of Baton Rouge. The Port Hudson-Pride Rd. is accessible from HWY 19 which runs Nth out of Zachary (the park would be about 2-1/2 mi. east from HWY 19), and also accessible from HWY 67 (Plank Rd.) from the east. The park is about 1-1/2 mi. west from HWY 67 (Plank Rd.)
There may be some confusion about the address. The BREC Park system shows the address as being in Zachary, LA.70791. However, MapQuest driving directions shows the town as Slaughter, LA. 70777. Slaughter is about 3 mi. Nth of Zachary in East Feliciana Parish. Probably need to use the town of Slaughter for driving directions.
Brent Rogillio has gotten the Best Western motel in Zachary to block off 30 rooms at $85/N until Oct. 1 for the contest. The group code is "Baton Rouge Bi-Liners". Brent recommends calling the motel direct at (225) 658-2550 for reservations. The motel is rated pretty high and offers a full house hot breakfast just like "B-W Plus". Make reservation ASAP- LSU HOME GAME THAT WEEKEND W/ SO. MISS. S. Miss. Folks really support their Golden Eagles"!
All further details are given in the contest flyer in the events section. Thanks,
       Doug

Way to geaux Doug.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.
I wouldn't take her to a dog fight even if she had a chance to win.

Thank you guys, but Brent Rogillio and you guys in La. deserve most the credit for making things happen. Brent has been the contact guy with the park system and his main contact for BREC has been Justin Smith. Justin has been very helpful and very influential with the BREC board of directors in re-locating our flying site. Justin Smith, asked us to help him find another park site that would suit us. So, we did some research of all of the parks(180) in the BREC system and came up with the Doyle's Bayou Park site. He took our choice to the board and the rest is history. We were fortunate to get an MOU agreement to provide help with grounds up keep. Municipalities don't normally do such things, least not in Baton Rouge. It did help that our club (Baton Rouge Bi-Liners) is now an AMA Charter club. Being a chartered club part of a large national organization helped establish credibility. This park is probably the most beautiful park in the system-over 100 acres of large open fields, small lakes, and forests. Location is a few min. from Zachary, LA. which has motels, numerous restaurants, Wally World, H-D and a few strip malls.

James make at least a day of it. We are going to have a get together some time in Aug. at the park to do some flying, and talk about preparations for the Oct. contest. We will let you know.
