Yes - a great weekend... enjoyed flying the EL Stunt model and then my little 'Gaucho' FF Scramble model at night (hadn't seen it flying with the lights on previously) then on Sunday morning it was again perfect weather for FF until about 11am..  Sorry the Weekend is over...

The first of Warren's pics looks like Dave Murrell flying his scale CL Tiger Moth. Three lines and throttle control it can taxi, take off, fly, land and taxi again under power. The fourth pic is the Tiger Moth in close up but I can't help with pics 2 and 3 except that the big bloke in the red jacket to the right in the third pic looks very much like Warren himself.

Did you get to night-fly your Super Clown?

Looks like it was a great gathering.

Hi Dennis,

Yes I did, and it looked quite impressive in the air but, there was a slight problem.  Not sure if it was due to the moisture in the air, but the speed controller was playing up.  It would rev up to full speed then after a few seconds it would pulse, slower, for a fraction of a second then resume full speed again, and it would continue to do this over and over.  Slowing down the speed would cure the problem but then the model was so slow it was un-flyable.  I did some testing with an RC transmitter/receiver, changed the battery, disconnected the lights and the problem was still there so I deduced it must be the speed controller.  I will try another ESC that I have here.  Any thoughts?

One thing I noticed, due to the brightness of the lights you could see how high above the ground the model was really clearly, and I really felt comfortable about doing aerobatics, but only for my concerns about the model slowing too much. I did a loop and nearly lost it so that was it.

The Vets Gathering is one of our most popular events here, with better attendance than most contests. The mix of RC, CL and FF makes it a really fun weekend.

Cheers

Hi Warren

Hmmm I wonder of the load of the lights is giving some false signals to the ESC?  I suggest you fire off a note to Wil Hubin, explain what happened.  He MIGHT recommend a separate BEC for the lights???

Hi Dennis

No it wasnt the lights.  It did it even if the lights were disconnected.  It did it to me once before on a cold misty morning but later in the day it was ok...   It wasnt the Timer either because it also did it if I connected a RC Receiver and controlled the speed with the Transmitter.

Cheers
