2009 Veterans Gathering at Muswellbrook NSW Australia
« on: May 03, 2009, 06:29:02 AM »
This weekend was the 2009 Veterans Gathering at Muswellbrook NSW Australia.  The biggest gathering of R/C, Control line and Free flight modellers in the country.  There is No competition, it's a fun flying weekend for all.  As such you get a lot of fliers who you wouldnt see at the competitions because they dont compete.

Here are some pics....

Thanks for info and the pictures.  Maybe that is the answer to getting more people out.  I just may try that sometime this year.  Springfield Stunt Clinic in in the states postponed because of high water.  Have fun, DOC Holliday

Warren:
Nice collections of models & pix - thanks for sharing.

There is somethng to be said for the fun-fly's.  Makes it more likely to see the obscure and experimental stuff.

Warren,
Have you heard of the "Ebenezer" free flight models? They are low cost sheet models that are limited to .049 or less size engines. I know that there has been a fly-in in both the UK and Australia that attracted over 80 contestants but I am not sure if they are still active. I am about to start a "Ebenezer Great Lakes Bipe" kit for those markets.

Hi Larry

YES, There were a few Ebenezers there.  I saw at least 2 flying.  You are right, they are popular here.

Cheers

Hey Larry

I had my 38 Special there... it was really popular... lots of people asked me where can they get one.

Looks like sales on 38 Specials are about to go up. :)

Warren - The 38Special isnt hard to find on a crowded flightline, thats for sure!  And, it looks great in the air!  Something about a bi-plane, thats why it was the first on my build bench!

Caught you online, Warren.........just a question not meant to offend........Do you still have a gun ban in Australia? We are getting close to having that here. Can you comment on what it's like without? Thanks ~john

Yes we do have a gun ban.  (but you can license certain firearms for use at clubs etc) It's not necessary to own a gun here, there just aren't that many guns around.

That's a shame, Warren........one of my other hobbies is collecting/restoring old guns. I hear the bloody brits are pretty anxious to get theirs back[rights that is]. H^^

You can collect old guns, I believe.  You just need to have a license.  So long as the firearm is licensed and it is not a prohibited gun you can have a gun.  Have a read of this to get a clearer picture... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Australia

Yeah, we are fighting the gun ban here in the states.  Those elected officials don't realize that the gun by itself doesn't kill people.  As they have noticed in the countries that have gun control the crime rates have gone up.  What criminal is going to license his gun.  What we need is laws that will put away the people that kill permanently.  Still don't see waht is so expensive about a 1 inch 12 foot long hemp rope to hang them with.  Granted in the past there were probably some innocent people put away.  But, how can a person only get 7 years for killing a person point blank with a shot gun to the face.  DOC Holliday R%%%%

PS:I still like the idea of a fun fly.  Maybe I can bring that up to the Northern Knights RC Club.  jeh

Wow...now that is an in-depth report on everything you ever wanted to know about guns in Australia... H^^...and some very interesting history indeed! ;) Here in the states we have the 2nd amendment which guarantees the right to keep and bear arms.....probably the one main reason the USA has never had an incursion into the mainland by a foreign enemy........nearly everyone is armed.  :o
