Title: 2008 US Team
Post by: RandySmith on September 03, 2007, 03:30:02 PM
Hi All

I just returned from the US Team Trials in Muncie. Great time, strange weather,we had it all  90 plus to 50 degree weather high winds, turbulence, rain, and mild stunt heaven Sunday. We all had  a  GREAT  time , and the trip was much enjoyed.
I flew several planes after the Sunday finals ,David Fitzgerald's Plane, along with Bob Hunts Electric Genesis, Frank McMillan's and Bill Rich's SV-11.
A Very eclectic assortment of Top line Stuntships were in attendace at the  TTs
This is our 2008 US Team

Paul Walker, David Fitzgerald, Orestes Hernandez, and our jr. Rep  Paul Ferrell

I will  post more photos  soon

I flew several planes  After the  TTs  were over Sunday
David Fitzgerald's Stargazer was very pleasant to fly , and it was the brute of the bunch, it loafed around with the Big PA75 and went thru everything a 5.4 laps in a rich 4 stroke.  The engine sounds much differant when your at the handle, and is surprising just how rich Dave runs it.
Dave plane is a very honest one has a dead even inside-outside turn, and  goes exactly where you point it, I was a little surprised at how slow Dave has the ship setup, but its one of those that you always want another flight on. It isn't any wonder why Dave is  so very consistant with this ship in any condition.

Bob Hunts ship was a much improved version of the 2005 Genesis he used last time. His plane now goes thru high winds with ease. Bob worked very hard on the new setup, using a differant programmed ESC , timer,  and  a new props with more diameter and 40% more pitch.  The plane has a solid feel, and really is  what Bob calls  a  "point and shoot" plane, It was very easy to fly and the electric engine pulled the plane thru every manouver with authority.  I was pleasantly surprised when I put Bob's Genesis thru the pattern at just how solid it was in all the power manouvers, Bob also has not only the power dialed in perfectly he has the windup in the wind virtually cut to nothing. If I know Bob his next ship will be  a  real killer with this new electric power train setup, and I know  it won't be long before we  see it.

Frank McMillan's PA 65 powered Caudron, is a perfect example of a really great conventional stuntship, it just sits and  drives anywhere you want it to go. I was looking forward to flying this ship as from what I could see outside the circle Frank's plane  looked to fly quite a bit like my own. The slow manover speed Frank had his ship set to run made it an easy one to fly and line tension was something you just didn't worry about at all, I did many manovoures crossed in the winds because of the bright sun and the plane never flinched, it just drove through any direction I pointed it in.

Bill Rich's new SV11  was only a couple of weeks old when it got the call for duty, but it was no surprise when I flew it. Bill has another excellent ship, and he will be a force with this one.  It turns very hard and flat, but also does a great job of tracking in the round stuff.

There were  many  good  flying planes at this Team Trials, and I would have like to have had the chance to fly all of them.

I wil post a few more  pictures  here from Muncie

HI Bill and Milton

Thanks  we had a  really great time..well discounting the leadouts pulling out of my ship friday night
It was a very good TTs  and I think we have a very strong team.

As Howard stated ,The WCs  only have 2 age  groups  Jr. and Sr.  under 18 and  over 18

and  YES  Milton  I got to fly all those ships, I fly many planes that other people build all the time, it is  really eye opening to be able to do that, I had a fantastic time at  VSC  this  spring  flying  many of the ships  there!

I am writing this as someone has already taken offense to my previous post.  I am sure that the judging core at the Team Trials was the best they could get.  If the people that worked hard at the trials judging thinking I am putting them down, I am not putting them down.  I just wish I had someway of thanking them personally for all that they do.  Same goes for all the individuals that worked the Team Trials.  So if I offended anybody I apologize here on this forum.  DOC Holliday
