This is my two thousandth post. I haven't run out of things to talk about yet. OOPS !! only 1900. but who's counting?

Here in Michigan I've been quietly putting events together and working at getting good turn outs for them. Recently one of the local flyers told me he wasn't going to attend a local contest because he felt he wouldn't be competitive. The thing that bugs me most at times like that is the fact that with that contest literally being around the corner none of us should miss it for any reason. I mean headcount is everything and when the guys nearby won't show up what's the incentive for the guys that have further to travel?
Every one of us likes to see a bunch of people at the contests and fun flys that we attend and the best way to guarantee a good turn out is for each of us to commit to at least being there for our local events.
Whether you're a fierce competitor or a sport flyer we need for everyone of you to turn out for events. Think about it. We all declare that c/l is fading away and that we need new blood. The best way to attract people to anything is to have it look like it's worth getting into. Go to contests and fly ins and add your presence to the event, that way we'll have bunches of guys flying and it will be more fun and as a bonus it will look more attractive to retreads and new comers.
Check you events calender today and plan a few trips.

I agree, except when things come up that were not seen ahead of time.  I missed going to Wichita  this year.  Hopefully will make Topeka.  We will see.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

Hey, Frank!

As a comment:  I was recently, publicly, called to task for missing our "local" contest this past June.  It was a last minute postponement, and nothing I could help.  This was after going to the one this past October in a knee brace and basically unable to fly! LOL!!  BTW: the "local" contest is a little over 100 miles away, and a HARD 2 1/2 hours drive.  I go to everything I possibly can, and love being there.  y1

I believe the event will carry on.  There are quite a few more "young guns" than I realized.  Those guys in their 20s-early 30s like Derek Barry, Todd Lee, Arch Adamisin, my son Aaron, Kevin Stewart, all wil be there and most of them have kids which will probably join right in.

It will probably never be like the '50s-'60s again, but who knows!

Sometimes missing an event can't be helped---Lord knows things come up.
So far this year I've been to Flint numerous times--a 1 1/2 hour drive.
I've been to Brodak---a 6 hour drive.
I've been to Muncie----a 6 hour drive.
This weekend's contest is a half hour away. A welcome treat.
I still plan on Cleveland, Dayton and Columbus plus a trip to Lansing.

Granted I have the time and resources to commit. Most of us do. And we should go.
