So I've been busy lately, trying to get some new models finished..
I would not say I'm a prolific builder, but when push comes to Shove, I can pump them out with the best of them.
I love the Nobler design, as anyone could tell you, Ive had LOTS. Probably built atleast 12 that I can recall off the top of my head over the years -
The last major competition Nobler was built in 2005 and served many classic contests & Nats classic wins with its "Contraversial Engine" choice..
We decided to build these 2 just to power it with something a little more "standard"
The 1st one, I really liked the look of bob Hunt's Caprice, so I took themes from that and came up with the 1st color scheme. She is powered with an OS MAX .35 HP that has had a little bit of work and is extremely reliable. This was finished late last year 2009.
The 2nd one, Finished just recently August 2010 we wanted to compete specifically in " Old time stunt " so it features as close to the plan as I can get it, even using the Williams Bros wheels as per the MAN plan. This is powered by the VECO .29 which runs quite nice, but its not my engine of choice for this design. - It was the original engine to the 1951 plan.
Enjoy the Photo's.

Im putting the finishing coats of paint onto my new model for 2011 which is a werwage ares with aforementioned "Contraversial Engine" choice...
here is a sneak peak.. I will be at the US Nats next year with either this model or another model which is Top secret, depending on which one flies best will dictate which one I bring over..

Paint for this has already gone on. its going to be painted very similar to the vintage Nobler in the last photo' I really liked the way that looked, and I tend to go for the "american flag" theme on these Older US designs..
Ive also just finished my 2010 Model which I might post photo's in a new thread.. and Im in the middle of painting my 2011 US Nats backup model.
Construction of the actual contest model has begun wings, fuse, stab all built, Im trying to double build along with the 2nd top secret classic model, so Ive got my hands full.. For those keeping count thats ; 1 Nobler finished last year, 1 New nobler finshed this year, 1 new 2010 Stunter finished this year, 1 - 2011 model in paint, and my 2011 backup in the middle of paint right now.. and 2 new models in frame stage.. 5 done, and 2 in frame.. since late 2009. ;D ;D

Very Nice! I like the paint scheme of the second Nobler.
-
Nice decoration of your Nobler H^^ H^^
-
Man them's sum PURDY Noblers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
WOW! Nice stuff, I really like the scheme on the first Nobler. y1
-
Very Nice!!! I love to see someone's hard work turn out so nice. The Nobler's are beautiful !!
-
Yeah the 1st one was based a little on the caprice - Bob hunts. Just with a stars and stripes motif.
To be honest, the last one I got the idea from Paul walkers final mustang ( the one that crashed ) I liked the look of more stars.. but wanted to keep the stripes a little simple to not busy up the design.
To date ive only flown the 1st nobler, been to busy building on my free days.. y1

Great looking planes P J!

Excellent work, I love the graphics and you are to be congratulated.
I have question. Those appear not to be "take apart" models and I'm pretty sure you're not going to drive from Australia to Muncie so how are you going to get them here? Private jet, yacht? Just curious.
I look foward to the 2011 Nats and seeing whatever you do manage to bring.

What was the "controversial engine" choice?
-
GOOD on ya', mate!
-
GREAT SIGNATURE LINE, PJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RD
-
OH YEA ,I ALMOST 4GOT SWEET LOOKING PLANES!!!!!
-
Thanks for the thanks guys, glad yall like them.
Les, What am I going to do ?? Im going to do what I did in 2004 for the worlds - build a box Pop the plane in and throw it on the plane.
Ive taken bikes and surfboards in big boxes before. Last time I flew air Newzealand all the way, and they have rules about sizes of boxes, which mine conform to. Worked last time, so I cant see why I wont work again.
Note, if you dont see me in 2011, You can read this post back and all have a chuckle !
If you let them know ahead of time, and get it in writing.. I dont know what else I can do.. Ive read horror stories about Guys not getting models on planes, but im also not keen on a t/a model. ( due to only building 1 and wasnt overerly happy with my own TA hardware.. )
We will see, but right now that's my plan.
And your right, non of them are TA, also none of the ones pictured will be there next year, Ive got a surprise for that.
Expert aerobatics will be just my normal ship as pictured in another post. - I wanted to build a new lancaster t/a and bring that over, but only if I could pursuade someone else to join the 4 engine foray, but I think he's playing around with winning nats with an electric.. Name slips my mind....
Thanks again guys..

What was the "controversial engine" choice?
From memory...Stalker .61. Probably not as controversial as a PA .65/tuned pipe woulda been. LL~
-
PJ,
They both look awesome! And I am sure the Ares will, too. Very, very nice.
Big Bear
-
Steve.. shhhhh.. n1
We dont say the name of the engine out loud!
True it would not have been as bad as a 65 on pipe, But I did end up re-powering it with the stalker .61 Long stroke - and both she and I LOVED IT!
I may or may not have the Ares there next year. Depends what flies better that or the one i'm building now. - Put some more paint on the Ares' today, Id say within 4 weeks, It will be in clear, and buffed out. - Its basically the same scheme as the 2nd Nobler, just with a few tweaks.
-
No need to "shhhhh"..........
That plane proves that nothing beats horsepower!! .... (Cubic Inches.)
Best motor run at the Nats!
4-stroked all through the pattern in a perfect steady run.
Why would you want to use a Fox 35? S?P
-
Wow those are beautiful Noblers,I really like the red white and blue one.
-
Brother Rowland
The Only controversial engine choice, is a engine without enough power!!!
Pop a Merlin 75 in that baby, if that is what you need to take care of your bidnezz
-
P.J.
Shareen loves your Noblers. She says you should pass by our place on your way to the Nats and she'll "finish them" for you. I don't know what she means by that....clear coat, maybe??

Thanks Ted, Im glad she liked them.
Why can hear the distinct sound of Beep.. beep.. beep...beep.... truck reversing. LL~
Hmm and she's not talking about " buffing it out "
Thanks for that Russell... I dont know about "Best motor run at the nats".... but I didnt watch everyones flight ;D
Ted are you going to fly in classic at the Nats?

Considering everyone is talking about putting in the brilliant aerotiger 36 into classic ships.. a .61 was considered Contraversial.
A merlin .75 seems insain!! ( having said that I did put in the stalker .76 for a trial run, but found no need, there was no extra power avaliable for the engine at given rpm. weight was a disadvantage so overall no benifit over the .61.)
-
What can I say that hasn''t been said yet. Now are you shoe horning an Aero Tiger's guts into the Fox 35 Stunt crankcase?
Now as far as shipping now, you guys must have a more lenient air line than we do here in the states. Melvin Schuette flew to Denver COLORADO to meet up with Dave Rolley to fly at Wittier Narrows flying field. Had his planes boxed and ready to go. The person at the gate asked what was in the boxes. With out thinking he said they were contest model planes. He then was asked about the engines. Seems the air carrier has just instituted a rule about things that have had fuel in them at one time or another. He said contacted the local manager and was tld they could not go on the plane. Even after going without the planes and getting home he contacted the headquarters and was told the same thing. I told him he should have reoved the engines and put them in an overnight bag. The engines I ship now are put in plastic bags after they have been oiled real well. Anyway maybe might see you at the USA NATS. H^^
-
To be honest what I did last time around was :
Have them cleaned 100%. - Make it look as new as possible .
Put them in a plastic bag and use heat to seal it.
With a note on the inside saying " brand new engine "
Below saying "this engine was factory sealed, test run and cleaned by the factory safe for air cargo"
Worked last time, they looked at it and said " fair enough , plus I had already gone from Aust to LA.
I also have a letter from the AMA, and FAI. I have heard of horry stories, and I am aphrehensive, but I did it last time, post 911. We will just have to wait and see ,as brett said you just need one TSA guy to ruin your trip - Maybe being an international vs homelander is the difference?? ???
-
Very nice models!!!! These planes ware built by plans or kit? What project (1957)?
Regards,
Luiz.
-
Custom built, off the 1951 MAN plan.
-
Both of the Noblers look great! I like the colors and the graphics on both!
Thanks for sharing.
