Contests in 1948 saw the first widespread use of the new-fangled glo plug.  A close examination of the engines in the video show a mix of glo and spark ignition.
From that time on, records were quickly broken, and model performance took a big jump upward.

Have seen this vid a few times before, however this time I watched it to the end and saw a fellow Ft Wayne Flying Circuits club member, Mr. Kenneth Kimmel, called out as a major award winner.

Going to look for 1953(?) Plymouth International, Dad was a timer for speed...
