There is fire between me and the M&M.  Were I to try to go there, it might cook my meat.  That is unacceptable.

If you kept your meat safely (and preferably) where it belongs, it wouldn't be a problem.

I'll bring my own meat.
I will also be bringing a big pot of my "World famous Chile"
And yes, I will be bringing plenty of Fox .15's to "Hurl".

I hope Howards meat doesn't get burned before the big bar-b-q. I hate it when that happens. Good luck Howard.

I cant give away many details at this time as there are officials and authenticaters involved.

But just imagine this,
What if you had the chance to own the very baseball that Joe DiMaggio hit for his 56th consecutive game. Or the very bat that that Hank Aaron
hit his 755th home run.
The fine folks here on the Stunt Hanger Forum will be getting the first crack at owning a piece of "Stunt History". Dare I say, "An Unprecedented

Stay tuned for details as they come in.

UJ

Yes as Uncle Jimby states, Brett won for an UNPRECEDENTED fourth time.
As always he used cunning and skill to totally dominate the competition. Before the event, Brett and I surveyed the Hurl site as to find the best location for a good bounce and optimal roll out.
With a ten knot tail wind, most Hurlers were somewhat surprised that Brett, Dave and myself opted for a medium trajectory Hurl'
Most others went for the high trajectory Hurl, thinking that they would benefit from the tailwind. The down side to the high trajectory plan, is that on descent, the Fox pretty much comes straight down. This kills the roll factor which is key for this location.

Brett, Dave and myself put up some pretty good Hurls as they were all around 160 to 170 foot. Dave hit a soft spot and got no bounce what so ever.
I hit in a pretty good spot and got an awesome roll. However on impact with the ground it kicked hard right, (almost 90 degrees)

Bretts Hurl did not seem too impressive at first. It hit at about 165 feet or so, and nailed what was probably the hardest spot on the field.
The Fox just kept rolling and rolling, stopping at a whopping 208 feet.
You should have heard the crowd, they just went crazy. Three feet short of the Official Record.

Congratulations Brett !!!

After receiving his award, a couple of people thought they heard Brett say something about going to Disneyland.

and for those who have trouble visualizing the wonder that is the Fox Hurl, here is a picture of this years contest. Featured hurler is Expert flier and long time hurl competitor Paul Pomposo whose high trajectory throw netted more divot than distance. In the background are competitors awaiting their chance of glory as they loft the legendary Fox 15 (which can be seen in flight at the top left of the photo) toward the sky. Not shown is the temporary grandstand that was setup to accomodate the crowd of excited fans that loudly cheered on each contestent.  8)

Pete,
I can detect some obvious flaws in Paul's attempt beside his trajectory.   Notice that he is not using the full diameter of the throwing circle.  An instant loss of 2 feet or more.  No true hurler would give that kind of advantage to his competitors.  The head gear is a real problem.  No one can make a real competitive throw with such a helmet.  Check out Bob Duncan.  Baseball cap with bill pointing rearward.  Now that is the kind of headgear a hurler uses.  Not sure if Brian is being serious enough about the competition with the look on his face.  I can see that David is seriously checking the fellow hurlers and looks to be up to no good.  Not sure where Brett is, probably over in the bull pen warming up.  Serious hurlers do that you know.

Very perceptive Alan-actually Brett was just off camera to the left with his custom made 'Fox 15 mitt" acting as the cut-off man as the hurled engines were returned to the circle by the measuring crew, AKA Larry and Doug Barton. As far as warm-ups, Bob was actually seen throwing rocks and doing stretching excercises prior to his official throw. With his Geezer points Bob did quite well but not enough to de-throne the Champ. 8)

. . .  Not sure if Brian is being serious enough about the competition with the look on his face. . .
What, you can't tell that's my "poker" face? Actually I was thinking that I would throw just hard enough to beat Brett but not show my best stuff. It was a great plan, just didn't work out.

Knowing that it irks a few folks in the modeling world just adds a bit of fun to the event. But rest assured, these are not NIB fox 15's.

I was much relieved to find out that those precious and wonderful Fox .15's are recycled for throw after blistering throw. But was wondering, are they cleaned before the next competitor's launch? Was thinking that caked-on dirt might be a streamlining advantage. Not having done such sport, it is interesting to learn something of the tactics involved. Perhaps we can have a similar event up here, maybe using e-Flight 32s?  H^^ Steve

Any delivery is acceptable, subject only to Rule 5.

I expect that it will not be particularly effective. The issue with the Fox 15 is that it is like throwing a ping pong ball. You need to generate very high velocity, but acceleration is easy. Overhand is going to get you the highest speed. Hyperextending something because it is so light is a real problem. This was the first year I had absolutely no problems with that. I changed my motion to add much more shoulder turn, to the point I almost had my back to the target landing spot when I was finished. I am not sure how much velocity it added but I could have done it all day long that way at maximum effort.

I am planning to try some discus-launched FF HLGs in the near future. That does seem like a big improvement, not because the launch velocity is particularly impressive but the gliders are much larger.

Randy, the locals would probably find an obscure rule either to limit rotation or to forbid Fox discus preprocessing on the railroad track.

First- clearly not, in fact, I said right there above that it was OK. Second, there is nothing "obscure" about the rules, there are plainly and simply stated almost every night, ionospheric conditions permitting.

"Processing" a Fox 15 in the manner you suggest, while certainly a good option if hurling it is not possible, will indeed render it ineligible for conventional hurling. It might be laudable as it does accomplish one of the canonical goal, that is, to keep the engines out of active use as a model aircraft powerplant, as an act of human kindness.

In any case, the engines to be hurled are supplied by the Office of the Commissioner, and are subject to rigorous inspection and certification. You can't just bring in any random engine off the street and hurl it in an official competition.

I would like to add, that Dave was very much involved in the inspection process.
I was worried about him protesting the outcome of the event so I made sure that he had no issues with the motors before we even got started.
The event went without a hitch. Except that I lost. As the Cubs fans say, "Wait till next year"

Wait a minute; I thought someone said there was a rule forbidding the hurler using any "outside objects" to counter balance themselves during the hurl. Isn't that just what the mitt is doing? I bet that's what allowed Brett to get more shoulder into the hurl.
