Any interest in this size prop? Stumbled on a guy who has quite a few that were for small military drones. Not marked like consumer props but they are RevUp 12x5 woodies. I may be able to convince him to list them here if there is interest. I do not know pricing.
-
They should be marked at the hub with the size. The story as I remember it, they were used on a target drone. The air frame was foam and looked like some sort of MIG fighter. The air frames used to show up at model swap meets when I first started to go to those around here back in the late 70's and early eighties. I think they were put out by Goldberg Models. The engines were a K&B or a Fox, and the radios were made to a government spec by ACE R/C in Higgensville, MO. I was flying R/C sailplanes pretty heavy at that time, and we flew a contest in Higgensville every year and I got to know Tom Runge and Paul Holsten pretty well. They described the radio as something that looked like it was from outer space. Big , huge tray mounted transmitter that required a big neck strap to help hold it. And obviously Rev-Up did the props. Same quality as any other Rev-Up, just no logo or other standard markings, just the size stamped in ink on the side of the hub. I think 12-5 was the only size ever used, because that is all I have ever seen. I have picked them up at swap meets and even found them listed on Craig's List by a guy who said that the 6 he had were the only model airplane related thing he had. Didn't tell where he got them, even after I filled him in on their history. I got a bunch more years ago after getting a tip from Jim Lee that a hobby shop in Kansas City, Dee and Me Hobbies had a batch of them, I tried them on various engines and they are a pretty decent prop. I would be interested in some depending on price. I need to check my prop stock and see what I've got.

That's the size I run, though I cut them to about 11-1/2". I'd be interested.

Anybody seen 12" drone props that aren't Rev-ups? A few years ago I picked up a couple bags of supposed Rev-up drone props, except these aren't marked at all, the bag isn't marked, and just from looking at the props they look to me like Master Airscrew wood props without any markings or the painted tips. They look like beech, same shape as the Master Airscrew wood props. I'm not sure if they're drone props from a different manufacturer or what. The seller thought they were the Rev-up props, and that's what I thought I was buying until they showed up. IIRC the Rev-ups were packed 12 to a package, these are 10 to a package.

the target drones first started out as Flying wings similar to teh Midwest Hustler. They were all foam models
and had K&B motors up front. Radios at that time were Kraft and when in flight they were handed off to the NEXT pilot who had his own
Transmitter and continued the flight until the model went thru the firing area and was ultimately blown out of the sky. My brother in law (in the Army back then) was on that program and I did get my fair share of motors and planes from him. (BIG SMILE). The Mig in Question was the Mig 27 Drone. Used Ace radios and again K&B .61 motors. They did try the Fox motors but they were just too unreliable and took too long to break in. The K&B .61 on the other hand took a tank of fuel to break in and off it went to meet its' doom. When I was on leave one summer, went to stay with him and my sister there (Ft. Hood) and got to work with them both in the shop and out on the range. got some stills around somewhere if I can find them, might be able to get a couple made over to digital and post them. There wasn't much left when one got popped with a round. LOL

Hi Mike,
If the shipping cost to Canada isn’t too ridiculous I would be interested in at least two packs of them.
Cheers
P.S.
I always look forward to your appearances and show and tells on the hangouts.

I'm still trying to get the guy to list them here. And I do not know if he is will ship outside the US. I don't know him personally so we'll just have to see what he is willing to do.

Thanks for the update Mike.

Hi Mike;
Got any idea about how many he has? Just curious, and may affect how many I would be interested in, that and price. I still need to check my stock but not a critical thing with me.

Definitely interested in 2 packs.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the posting! How do you contact this person? What was your price for the bag? Perhaps those of us who are interested may contact him directly! Please let us know!
Thanks,

I am trying to work out a deal to get these props and have them available here. Give me some time please. When I know more I'll post. Thx
-
Thanks Mike. Please keep us posted. I am interested also.
-
Hi Mike! I may be interested in purchasing a pack or 2, depending on price of course and also if there are any left...

Hey Mike if you work out a deal with this gentleman I would be in for two packs Thanks
-
Mike,
I want to thank you again for posting about the Rev-Up props. Not only are they good props, but the reaction you've generated has shown there is a strong marketplace here, despite the ongoing public health battle. This is motivating for those of us that are using this time to build new planes, as well as buy and sell the items needed to keep them flying.

I picked up a pack of 10 at Joe Nall last year, great prop for st 51. 2 bags for me if any left ...
-
I have the props. Due to the number of people that replied and the number of props I have I will go down this list and PM everyone who expressed interest for first crack at them. Only 1 bag of 10 for each person will be available so everyone has a chance to get a few. Any leftover will be posted in the Classifieds. Once I have everyone's replies I will package and ship, this may take a while so be patient. They will be $30 a bag plus actual shipping(first class cheapest) Sparky move to classifieds if you need to, I didn't know I'd be brokering props when I first made this post.
-
Mike,
I would like to add my name to your list.

Hi Mike;
I just sent you a PM. Is there a back story to this adventure? I'm as interested in how or where this guy found this many of these as I am in getting the props. Is he a "Storage Wars" kind of guy that buys abandoned storage units or something? Makes me wonder how many of these Rev-Up was contracted to make? And are there any more out there??

He didn't really say but I'll ask. I bought all he had on hand. He thinks he may have more. I'm waiting to hear back and am going to try to get those too.

I've used this exclusively on my aging ST51/Skylark for at least ten years. Marvin Denny was able to get them for me. Now, I can use another ten of them. Please include me,
dale gleason
Also, they all have been very well balanced out of the bag...

There was a lot of info on the drone program on the various forums when I looked several years ago. In typical fashion, when the .Gov moved on to something else, the drones, engines, props, etc went in the dumpster. Some brave souls saved stuff from the dumpster and took it home. That's where some of the stuff came from. If it's like everything else surplus, there's probably a bunch that was auctioned dirt cheap, some that was 'liberated', etc. There's probably still some of that stuff in the backrooms and warehouses across the country where they've been lost or forgotten.

I will take a bag of 10 .

Dale and Gordon I sent you a PM.

Everyone has responded with addresses, I'll be packaging in the next few days and my goal is to get them in the mail by Friday. Once shipping has occurred everyone will get a PM with the total price. Check or money order will suffice.

1st person to break one of these send me the pieces so I can glue it together and make a mold of it.
Motorman 8)
I'd send you a few new ones if I can get a few of what you make. How many do you need to make a mold?

I too would like to have ten of these props.

All props shipped, even to our Canadian friends. PM's have been sent with payment info to everyone. If you have any issue with what I sent contact me and I'll make it right. Thx.

Thanks ever so much Mike.
I really enjoyed our first time visit Monday evening.
Hopefully I can succeed again tonight.
I’m with a new internet service as of today so we shall see how it works.
Cheers

Just one good one. Although it doesn't seem a good venture since everyone who wants them has just got 10 new ones for $3 each.

PM me your address

Mike,
The props came in in excellent shape. Well worth the price. Hope the check has arrived.

I can offer 18 of these to 2 different buyers -
SOLD Lot #1 - 10 in sealed bag, $30 plus actual shipping
SOLD Lot #2 - 8 each loose, $24 plus actual shipping
For those interested in the background: The props were part of a MiG-27 Target Drone package supplied to the military. I saw many surplus units - often modified and/or painted - used by RC modelers in both Minnesota and North Carolina. The RC systems, of course, were replacements.
I believe Carl Goldberg Models provided the foam & plywood aircraft and might very well have put the “total package” together.
A military unit here in Minnesota was literally throwing out quite a number of New In the Box packages, and an RC club to which I belonged was able to get our hands on several. I gave the aircraft I obtained to other modelers but kept the engines and props; I may uncover more props in the future as I go through boxes and boxes of accumulated “stuff”.
There’s some pretty extensive documentation on the drones here -

PS added: The engines were K&B .65

Cool Beans Dennis! That is what I remember seeing at swap meets around here back then. Don't remember seeing the props or the engines, but at that time I was more into sailplanes and some free flight and wouldn't have been looking for those. A 12-5 doesn't sound like much prop for a .65. How heavy were they? The radios produced by ACE might have had to be pretty heavy duty per the contract specs. I would have expected much more pitch at least for such a package, at least 7 inch pitch to get the whole package moving at a high enough speed.

Stated specs: 29 to 46 mph at sea level, 10 minute duration at max speed, capable of carrying a 5 pound, 80 cubic inch payload "of uniform density", hand launch in winds up to 25 knots. Several guys used larger engines - the K&B .65 wasn't exactly the "top of the line" - and several here went electric. But of course EP technology is about light years ahead of where it was just 10 years ago.
I don't think anyone achieved "thrilling" performance, but the price was right and some did achieve rather nice-looking finishes.
Hard to believe that was just 10 - 15 years ago ...

HI Mike, My Rev Up props arrived yesterday, 4-13-20, in fine shape and sooner than I had expected! Many thanks for your fine efforts on this sale! I am looking forward to trying them out on my ST .46's and LA .46's! Really appreciate this help!
