Title: .028 CF Rods for flaps
Post by: Ken Culbertson on April 14, 2023, 07:09:24 AM
I recently purchases a bunch of 24" .028 CF Rods for rudder pushrods.  In redoing my flaps on my current project I noticed that the hinges really liked the rods.  Is there any reason I cannot use a CF rod instead of the .025 piano wire?  My concern is not the CF, it is wear on the hinge.  Has anybody tried this, they are significantly lighter than the .028 wire I use on the 20x36mm Karcy hinges.

I would imagine that the cf rods are quite abrasive.

I was thinking the same thing.  As luck would have it they are difficult to thread so I used some .025 piano wire instead.  Life is good.

Set up the hinges with .032 wire, then when you are done, use the .025 wire for flight. This more-or-less guarantees it stays free.
