Title: &^*%$#@ PayPal...
Post by: Rusty on February 03, 2025, 06:21:56 PM
Today I sent $21.00 to Bobby Brooks who owns the control line store on ebay.  I have been a paypal customer for 25 years.   I use paypal regularly.   Bobby has a legal business and uses Paypal to get paid.

Well, Paypal withheld sending Bobby the $21.00 because they want to investigate if there is illegal activity.  It was not sent as friends / family.  It was sent to pay for goods and services.  I wrote in the comments the payment was for a OS piston and cylinder set.

Has anyone ever heard of such stupidity?

I went on the PayPal website and clicked that I wanted to talk to customer service.  The website gave me a phone number and a access code number.  I called the number twice and it asked my phone #, date of birth, but would not allow me to put the access code in or talk to anyone.

I am seriously considering closing the account.  I am sick of getting jacked around by these money hungry companies.

I have tried to pay him with Paypal using "friends and family", but can't find any to do it so Paypal doesn't charge him fees. He agreed a while back to take personal checks from me, and that has always worked fine. He's a good guy to do business with (with whom to do business?).

You can't send F/F payments to a business account.

I have tried to pay him with Paypal using "friends and family", but can't find any to do it so Paypal doesn't charge him fees…

After many years of offering free transfers for Friends & Family PayPal recently decided that people were lying to them about “Friends & Family” payments to avoid the fees (No! Really??).  So currently PayPal ALWAYS charges fees.  If you use Goods & Services the fees go to the seller/recipient, and if you use Friends & Family the fees are charged to the buyer/sender.

A simple solution is to use Goods & Services and increase the payment amount to include the fees (3% + 30˘).  So a $20.00 payment becomes $20.90.  I’ve been doing it for years and the sellers appreciate it.  There are several free PayPal fee calculators out there to do the math for you.
