"Serenity NOW!" in primer
« on: June 13, 2010, 06:21:31 PM »
Shown in my state-of-the-art paint booth, "Serenity NOW!" is finally in primer. It is modified from a well known kit by enlarging the tail volume a few percent and moving  the elevator hinge line back a half inch, and a few other things. Power is PA40 UL on pipe. (Thus the pipe tunnel.) Anybody guess what the kit was?

My assistant, Susie the Stunt Brittany, looks on.

I am encouraged by the knowledge that even Larry Fernandez' models look like this at some point.

Legacy was the first to come to mind. Except that's not it, and now I'm blank. Great looking design and model though! y1

Hi Mike If I were to guess I'd say it started life as an Oriental Plus
Do I win a PA .40 Lite for getting the right answer????????????????

The plane looks great !!!!!!!!!!!
Just dont rush things at this stage, Look for the smallest of flaws and fix them now. Take it out to the field and let the gang look it over.
They may see dings and rough spots that you might miss
Keep up the good work
I'll see you guys on the fourth

The airplane looks great!  I was wondering what you had been up to recently - I think the last time I saw you was around Festivus-time.

Dang! Larry F gets it right off the bat. No Larry, the prize is not a PA40, sorry. But I just might let you give me some finishing tips. The mods are actually per Brett's formulas for areas including tail volume and moments; I thought the stock tail size could be bumped up a bit and the hinge line (to be well taped of course) moved back to take advantage of the larger area.

Brett, what the heck is festivius?? The last get together was probably at Napa last October, when we ended up at David's home and got the shop tour. I think you were ill and had to bail early.

Speaking of Napa, I had to bail today due to too much office work. I hope Jim wasn't miffed as I had promised to help out.

Mike, want to ask the guys/gals to guess the reference of the plane's new name? (with Larry not eligible--he did have the correct answer when "pop quizzed" at the field yesterday).

Well, I just Googled "Festivus" and am chagrined to say I had forgotten the meaning. It looks like there are a lot of Seinfeld devotees out there, sometimes in surprising quarters (Larry F, that means you)! Festivus for the Rest of Us indeed.

   Polish?  Blasphemer!

*Surface Finish: In keeping with the precepts of Festivus, the Festivus Pole is to be "unadorned and lusterless".

I guess I know someone who is going to be mentioned in *my* List of Grievances this year.

I pride myself (if "pride" is the correct word - perhaps "alarm" fits better) in my encyclopedic knowledge of TV.

   Educate yourself!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festivus

It's at least as legitimate as Kwaanza, which was invented in 1966 by a political activist.

I think the "pride/alarm" dichotomy depends on the subject: an encyclopedic knowledge of "Dukes of Hazard" is not in the same category as "Seinfeld" or "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

I am sure our hobby lends itself to the declaration of lots of Festivus Miracles.

Call me old fashioned. I thought Festivus was Matt Dillon's Deputy after the limpy guy got bored with the weekly grind. Hmmmm. No, that was Festus. Oh, well, I prefer celibrating "National Ammunition Day" (Nov. 14, tho it's more the sentiment than the actual date). I try to buy at least 200 rounds of fairly large bore types, somewhere near that date, each year.  R%%%% Steve

PS: I like the plane. Be aware that the O+'s locally have tended to be tailheavy. Lengthening the nose an inch would be my plot.
