I just received an email from Tower Hobbies that my back order for the "Score" ARF has been shipped from Champaign Il. Since I am less than 200 miles from there it is possible I could get it this afternoon. Will let you know.
OH NO I hope Frank doesn't see this. **) **) **) **) **) **) **) **) j1 j1 j1 j1 j1 y1 y1 y1 ~> **) **) **) **) **)

LEESTER,
PLEASE BE SURE TO POST PICTURES. IS THIS THE TAKE APART ARF?
-
Yes Frank I believe the wing is removable. I'll post pics asap but I still have the old fashoned camera, that takes film development. j1 j1 j1 ~> j1 j1 j1 ~> **) **) **) 8) 8)

Who is using Franks computer? I see a reply by a person named "Frank", but it clearly is not him. The missing faces and stuff have given the imposter away.

For those interested, the construction manual is available to view on the Score page of the Tower website.

I received my Score today. I'll leave the full review to Louis. Everything is great but the leadouts are only 3/4" out the tip at neutral. With the white covering a flashlight shows thats it for the leadouts. Being crimped I was going to replace them anyway but theres no room to pull the bell crank out the wing hole without cutting at the tip. You'll have to connect the new ones at the tip and pull through or add a small piece at the tip so you can pull out the bell crank. Fun!! %^ %^ %^ %^ %^ %^

Leester,
Mine will not arrive until tomorrow. It will have to sit on the porch for two days while I am preoccupied with the Texarkana contest. So, go ahead and post a review and some pictures. I know everyone is waiting.
-
Did anyone else receive a Score with the 3/4" lead outs or just me? Lets see if Karma can hit - double digets. someone is having fun with it. GO For It. **) **) **) j1 j1 j1 y1 y1 y1 y1 #^ #^ #^

Leester,
Have you changed the leadouts?
I keep hitting a k-point for you but there is someone being very smiteful.
I'll see if I can get you back into the positive side today.
Do you have any idea when you'll be flying your Score?
What are you putting on the nose for power?

Frank: I'm out of town for work Friday and Saturday so it's still in the box. I will go with the LAS 46 or the ST 51 I even have a ST 46 not doing anything. Decisions Decisions. I probobly won't get it together for a while I've got to many projects going on I don't even have room to work on it. j1 j1 j1 j1 j1 #^ #^ #^ #^ #^ :)! :)! :)! **) **) **) **) **)

Pictures please, pictures. Looking forward to seeing one of these up close but until then need pictures.

Leester,
I lucked into getting a Score this weekend. But I didn't dare mess with it yesterday! n1 While at the Skyraiders fun fly Saturday I did open the box for all to see. Same problem as yours, leadouts are only 3/4" from the tip. Wing covering looked great, no wrinkles, sags. The fuselage though does give me some cause for concern. There seem to be some inherent weak spots mostly because of the removable wing design. Same with the stab mounting. This ARF will get the Tom Morris control treatment. It looks like I could replace the bellcrank, leadouts, etc without too much trouble. Any surgery in the bellcrank area would be hidden by the fuselage. I'll see if I can't snap a few pics tonight.
-
Larry: I read on UHP that they (can't remember who) tinned the new lead outs to the old ones and went through the adj. lead outs then to the bell crank area. Seems like this would be the best way. They also put a 4" bell crank in.
-
Leester,
I've not tried the tinning method, but 5 minute epoxy using fine copper serving wire works real well. Good deal on the 4 inch, I was wondering if it would fit... y1 ...
-
Gentlemen ,
It is very simple to change to a 4" bellcrank . snip off the is lead out wire at
the bellcrank(after removing the hold down bolt.) Zap glue the new leadout to the old
one and pull out through the adjustable leadout end. Note - you need to be careful to
line up the leadouts so they match well as there is not a lot of room in the adjustable \
leadout guide. The wire that is toward the leading edge will test your metal .
You have to be very careful when pulling the wire in from the bellcrank hole so it
does not break off . I will use a RO Jett .61 or Saito .56 as this is a large plane
and will weigh 64-66 oz.
Has anyone attempted to strip the covering off yet ? If so how about some
comments on that . I have purchased two airplanes and will recover one.
W Hicks
-
Walter: I've done it that way but there was enough lead out to pull the old bell crank out of the wing with the lead outs still attached. You don't have that on the Score you'd have to do that inside the bellcrank compartment, thats to confined for me . I'll do it at the outside end where I have some room.

OK, I managed to snap a picture or two today. y1

Larry,
Thank you very much for the pictures. Now, waiting to hear how they fly. Yes, I want one!
-
Very nice photos!
How much does it weigh?
-
Check the review section, I think Louis has it in there. I think it's 66oz or so.
-
I have a Score assembled and ready to fly. I replaced the bellcrank and pushrods as the pushrods supplied were hopelessly inadequate. I used most of the other hardware. Motor is my St 51 and muffler from my old magnum. As it sits now it is about 64 oz. I anticipate about another two ounces or so of weight as the model looks a tad tail-heavy. The film covering looked great as it came out of the box, but as I handled it during assembly it started to come loose. It is kind of hard to re-shrink the film and keep the trim straight.
-
Mike: What method did you use to replace the lead outs?
-
I cut the leadouts off at the bellcrank and removed them. Removed the bellcrank. Took a morris bellcrank, and made a bushing so I could use the stock bellcrank platform and bolt. I fished a 1/32 rod of music wire through the wing. I have some small Teflon tubing that just fits over the morris leadouts. shoved a short piece of the tubing on the end of the wire and the end of the leadout. A couple of drops of ca secured the wire and leadout in place, and I used the wire to pull the leadout through the wing and the leadout guide.
-
Thats the same way I replaced the system in the ARF Nobler. Used Tom system works great.
