'Phil Jr.' Flys Again!
« on: August 29, 2018, 06:25:18 AM »
At the last moment yesterday I decided that it was time to take this very old delta wing plane out to the field and give 'er a go.  You can see the results on FB  Control Line Flyers. The Philly guys were trying to get rid of it at the GSCB swap meet last year and I 'won' it at the auction for $2 plus 1$ for the motor. Nobody knew its history but as I looked it over I came to appreciate the workmanship. The covering is a checkerboard of tissue! Very light and very brittle. I repaired the holes and made a few of my own while working on it, eventually getting it whole. When I set it down on the field we discovered another split and fixed it with tape. With a little fussing the old McCoy fired up and off we went. Thing flys great but needs a little work on the fuel system.  It was fun bringing this bit of history back to life!   TS

Here’s the photo of the monster Delta wing. I think it would be cool to put a Fox 36x BB in it with a Pacifier fuel tank.  AP^

Many of us were quite impressed with the quality of that build. I wasn't present when the guys were flying it. If I wasn't so hard pressed for room these days I would've put that one in the air for certain. Ken
