A fighter that creates it's own weather? Thats a Eurofighter or Typhoon, one of the noisiest aircraft I've ever heard .

Hi Neville...I've never been privileged to hear or see a Typhoon or Eurofighter in person, but I bet that the Cessna A-37 Dragonfly/T-37 "Tweet" and the Mitsubishi MU-2, would give them a "run for the money."

Can we assume that what we are seeing is water vapor and the light is catching it - hence the rainbow .

Back in the late 50's early 60's I lived not far from RAF West Malling (pronounced Maul-ling!) the USAF or was it the US Navy ?were based there in the mid 50's. The RAF had the noisiest aircraft ever in those days, the Gloster Javelin! The noise was unbelievable when you had 5 or 6 of them come over your house!!

I think the wing is creating such a low pressure on its upper surfaces, that it squeezes all the moisture from the air and creates clouds momentarily!

Yes back to science class, Water vapor and sunlight in the right angle do make rain bows.  Now for noise,  The Lincoln NEBRASKA NATS hearing Harriers and Phantoms coming plus going were noisy to me.  They were a good 1/2 mile away.
