Hi all.
Here we have another excellent project by Beto Glaser.
Its a refined and improved version from the Red Baron.
Its targeted around the popular 40-46-51 engine range, so the choice will depend on preferences and building weights.
The wingspan from the model is 47 3/4" as indicated in the plans.
This project was not tested yet, the prototype will be built in a near future. If someone wants to contact Beto here is his email: alberto.manoel.neto@terra.com.br, and certainly he will be very happy with any comments about this pretty plane.

Nice work Carlos. Beto has an eye for designing our models. Did Beto also do the drawings? They look very good also.

Hi John. Yes, the model illustration was made by Beto based on the smaller Reno Style Mustang (printed on the right side of the plans)

Looks good, I like the choice of the overall size too.

I'm just going to toss out a "two cents" critique if I may though. Since it appears to be a clean-sheet design and has not been built yet, why not fine tune it? At this stage it would be very easy to pencil in better scale outlines of the fin/rudder and the tips of the wing and stab/elevator. Making those minor changes would make for a much more "believable" semi-scale Red Baron or Miss BJ, and it would still perform as well as it's currently designed. Just sayin'...

I've understood that Miss BJ Pro is a full fuselage adaptation of Floyd (Bobby) Jones' profile Miss BJ.

Builders who care about scale looks can surely adjust some shapes on their own...

I plan on starting on of these soon and have a NIB Fox 35 stunt for it. I am confident it will have enough power. Could anyone else offer an opinion?

Sure, here's my opinion:

1) Increase the wingspan to 52 inches and taper the wing
2) And while you are at it, lower the wing in the fuselage and add dihedral
3) Forget about a Fox 35. Go for an LA-46. You'll probably need a 5.25 ounce tank,
4) Build an Old-Time stunter for the Fox

Hi Daniel, I'm sure all Scott's suggestions would work just fine. On the other hand, I've got a standard Miss BJ which is a great flier with an Enya SS30. It's also gone well with an SS25 diesel. I'm sure yours will be fine with the Fox, which is what's shown on the plans anyway.

I think I calculated the wing area at about 520 sq.in. The full fuselage adaptation (anyone built one?) seems to use the same wing, so you'd have to wonder whether a .40-.46 is really necessary.

Hi Scott, thanks for your input. I am building this for my 9 year old step son. He is currently flying a smaller stunter and it's time for bigger.

I think I will leave it as per plan. I have an LA46 here but question is as being too much an engine and Miss BJ is not a large plane.

Also have a nice .40 FP-S but it's going in my new stunter. The Fox seems to be a good one and grumbles away at about 8500rpm in a 4 stroke with a 10x6 wood prop so I am confident it will have the grunt.

Steve, a darn nice looking plane you have there. I can build like the best of them but finishing is something I need to work on. I have the plan for the profile Miss BJ which is what I was going to build then I stumbled upon the full fuse version which just looks cool. I got the Fox for a steal, it's a 40th anniversary one and runs really nicely, still breaking in so I'd imagine it will get better as time goes too.

How does the Enya diesel go for stunt? I have been considering buying one for a while as I love diesels, but have never owned anything bigger than a 2.5cc.

Does anyone know if the Miss BJ profile or the M&N Special is N-30 legal. I was gifted both and was thinking about taking one to broken arrow.

Rick, Miss BJ was in Flying Models January 1987, in the article his first one was entered in the 1976 PAMPA Championships. To my recolection that Miss BJ you have I built to the plans exactly no bashing!!

Rick The M&N was a cross between the Magician and the Nobler. I scratch built the Magician fuselage and the wing was from an ARF Nobler. Don't remember what the Stab,Ele,rudder and fin came from ?? either from a Nobler ARF (that I crashed) or scratched from the Magician. lol Rick on secound thought I might have made the fuse etc from the Metaphor I plan ( it was basically a Magician) but the wing was from An ARF Nobler..

When I saw the full fuselage Miss BJ, I thought of grafting in a Vector 40 wing, perhaps with different wingtips. Some of the Brodak ARF/ARC kits have spares available, but for sure you should be able to order the Vector 40 (or other) kit wing separately from Brodak. I also thought a Magnum XLS .36 would be sweet in this plane.

Thanks that helps a bunch. The M&N is a sweet flying plane you done a great job on it. It has been my go to trainer learning the pattern and also have taken it to 2 contests. But unfortunately it does not qualify for N-30. I am going to take the Miss BJ to broken Arrow for that event. I have lost your number if you could PM me with it I will put it in my phone.

I agree the Magnum 36 would be sweet on this plane. I run several of these in different planes. The one I have from Leester was built off the plans with the half ribs. I am looking forward to trying it out this week. It is a beautiful plane.

Fox for the miss B J ,

Build a Mustunt from your plan for the .46 or Stalker 51 . keep it light .

FINISHING . that toluleen trpe they pass off as DOPE is rancid tripe .

You Need NITRO CELLULOSE LACQUER .
Some Automotive clear is o.k. ; the ' coat a day ' trip so it gasses off as you go .

Cold Here too , TWO DAYS before sanding , or it balls & gums the paper .
If you can get Sig or Brodak dope its twice the gloss of ' other ' products .

Genuwine Talc from Art Supply store , no baby oil or incense in it , so it dosnt crack up .

Slower you go finishing the better , with dope finish . BUTRATE ten coats thrown on in two days will keep twisting it out of line for YEARS .

Heres a ( poor ) photo of the Bjornwall Mustunt redone as Miss R J , around 75 . - Fin Fillet and rear deck a bit different . woulda Come out
at 40 Oz finished with the OS 30 .

Bobby Jones the designer of the BJ Mustang that was in the magazine had several versions and they all flew well before 1987. I use to see him in Atlanta and I do have some pictures of them. It will take some time to find them and then I will show them here with the date I took the pictures.

Go to this thread http://stunthanger.com/smf/open-forum/miss-bj-magazine-article/ it has the pictures I promised. It is the 1987 KOI and Bobby's plane is at least a year old at that time so it is at least 30 years old. Wow I won the KOI advanced 30 years ago. I lost to bill Rich in the fly off.
