"Li'l Diablo" the spec sheet...
« on: January 14, 2008, 01:39:16 PM »
Some of you have asked about specs on the upcoming "Li'l Diablo" kit from Tom Niebuhr at Blue Sky Models, so here's some more info...

My design that you see here, the "Li'l Diablo", is basically a downsized version of Red Reinhart's original 'El Diablo. Construction is very straightforward, however I made a big point to keep the finished outlines and details accurate in appearance to the original .35 sized ship. The original 'El Diablo wing construction was a wee bit unconventional to some, but the "Li'l Diablo" is just a simple, straight chord wing. The curved trailing edge and wingtip outlines are developed with 1/8" sheet. The half-ribs,tapered trailing edge sheeting, and placement of tip ribs etc., are all details copied from the original.
 Here are some specs:

205 sq in (very close approximation-hard to measure exactly with this T/E and tip outline) ;D
28" wingspan-24" tip rib to tip rib, with 2" wide wingtips at T/E
 7/8" thick airfoil
6 1/2" built-up main wing chord (7 3/4" root chord at fuse and 9" tip chord with T/E and wing tips added)
2" stab chord with 11 1/8" stab span at hinge line
7" tail moment from where curved T/E meets fuse
4 1/2" nose moment (from wing L/E to thrust washer)
 Weight-Uh,purty light (I don't have a scale) ;D

I will be working up some drawings to send to Tom in the next week or two, and he will take the project from there. Anyone not already familiar with the quality of Tom's Blue Sky Models kits will definitely not be disappointed. I am fully confident that you will see a very high quality product. I hope that many of you will have a lot of fun building and flying the "Li'l Diablo" when released.

For more photos and information, please see the original post "Ever seen a "Li'l Diablo"

 Thank you all,

 Wayne Willey

Very nice...I like the look.  Airfoil seems a little thin, less than 10%?  Well, it'll make it fast. And 200+ squares is a nice size wing.

Yes, I just caught that too, typo mistake, the airfoil is 7/8" thick actually.

It's corrected on the original post now. ;D

Much better, glad it was a typo.

Something around 12% then.

I like it a lot.
