Title: 'Fancherized' Intrepid XL and a Bird in the sunset.
Post by: Norvaldo on May 04, 2007, 01:37:20 PM
Hi.
My Intrepid XL decided to copy the behavior of Ted's Trivial Pursuit today.
Wing snapped in mid air while i was fine tuning the Rustler Merco Metamorph.
Plenty of power in that engine.
As the landing proved a bit difficult, the excellent gear and wheelpants from Randy Smith broke as well.

Some luck in the unlucky.
1. It was not my competition plane.
2. I brought my Thunderbird II with the RO.Jett .41 and after some flights in dead calm air and the RO-Jett performing excellent as usual, my spirit was restored.

In hindsight i know why the Intrepid said good bye.
It was originally covered with silk and too heavy.
So last year i removed the original covering and put on Oracover.
Most likely i was too tough sanding in the wing root area, thus weakening the structure.
I did not build the wing myself, as i bought the plane half built from a guy.
I usually put two  16" carbon tubes to strenghten the wing.

the message is patently obvious, you are supposed to be flying classic. ::)
