Here is my Sukhoi that was completely designed and scratchbuilt around an ARF Nobler wing. This is the first full-fuse plane I ever built, finished in June 2005. The wing was obtained from a fellow club member who suffered the infamous clevis failure during a contest flight in Fargo, ND. The rest of the plane was destroyed, but the wing was virtually undamaged.
All moments are copied directly from the Nobler, but I increased the flap, stab and elevator area . Wingspan is 50".
Construction started by stripping the Monokote, knocking off the stock built-up wingtips and went from there, basically "winging it" and "eyeball engineering" all the way through. The canopy was sectioned from a Sig bubble canopy. The L/G was trimmed down from a Great Planes R/C piece. Power is a good 'ol K&B .40, and things settled in nicely with an 11X5 prop. The plane takes off, glides in and lands practically by itself if the pilot is smart enough to leave it alone.
The rest of the performance was deemed " I wish my models flew that well off the bench", by a fellow 500 plus point flier from our club after he flew it a few times.
This plane, if asked, will perform WELL beyond my own capabilities at this time, so I'm kind of just "saving it".
