'73 Nats Pictures
« on: December 08, 2009, 09:08:41 PM »
Does anyone have pictures from the 1973 Nats, particularly the Aerobatic Senior Competitors with their airplanes.
What I am looking for specifically is a picture of Mike Thompson's 1973 Nats Airplane.  The Airplane was a Silhavy large Gypsy.  Base color was sliver and it was trimmed with Miami Blue and Fokker Red.  Those are the colors we chose to paint our airplanes back in '72, except any base color could be used.

Thanks in advance...

Hey James...
At the top of our forum section... Type MIKE THOMPSON into the search engine. I have seen a few shots of that 73 airplane on stunt hanger somewhere, huh?

I am not sure Mike attended the 73 NATs, I think he flew the Gypsy like you describe in '72.  Also he and I were both been OPEN class in '73.

Not sure if Dad has any pix or not.

Hi Dennis,

I sure hope your Dad may have some pictures from '73.  Mike flew a Gieske Nobler in '72, he flew the Gypsy in '73. Mike graduated from HS that year and his parents bought him a nice '73 GMC pickup for a Graduation present.
I remember them loading up their old reliable Suburban with that plane strapped to a piece of plywood in the back.
They used to travel during night hours and did their hotel stays during daylight hours.  Of course, I thought that was a bit strange, but they liked traveling that way.  I'm not exactly sure, but Mike might still have been a senior, I think his birthday could have been sometime after July.

I believe I have some, but they are in my dead computer. I may recover them later.
