Thanks, I did a search but came up empty.  That was my first big plane so may build it again.  That was the year I graduated high school, guess I'll have a couple of things to celebrate LL~.

As the link shower it was 1986. I was going to guess 1986 as there were a lot of them at the 1988 Nats. A few years after that Randy Smith did a mod on the Magnum that made it a much better flying plane. He built one with his airfoil that was thicker. I think later he put the counter rotating prop set up in it.
Many of the kit foam wings came out heavy as balsa strips had to be glued into the leading and trailing edge.

It's true. Replacing some of the heavy balsa that comes with the kit is almost mandatory, but the wing LE and TE, man, talk about being heavy...

Hi James,
The Magnum was kitted in 1986.  However, the original Magnum (I beam) was built in 1977.  I'm looking for the pencil drawing, they are around here somewhere.  It was powered by an St.46 and was around 48 ounces.  I splattered at the Texas Nat's in 1980 when the line clip popped open.

Later,
Mikey

Hi Wayne,
No I don't all photos where lost years ago after the divorce.  It was white with metallic blue trim, sexy wheel pants, swept forward flap hing line, and typical balsa blocks top & bottom and silk covered.  In calm weather it flew really well.  But, when the wind came up, it turned into a kite even with a really good ST .46.  Before the Texas Nat's I applied about four more coats of clear dope and raised the weight to 49 ounces when rubbed out.

Mikey
