There was a Gieseke Nobler 46 listed in the seventies in Randy Smith's list.  I would assume it's bigger than Bob's Gieseke Nobler.  The pic above looks like UHP
standard Gieseke Nobler.

I remember the Large Nobler. It hung in Jack Sheeks hobby shop in Indy 20+ years ago. It was painted a deep red exactly like Bobs smaller Fox powered Noblers. I asked Jack about the airplane and he told me that he got it from Bob but I thought it was powered by a ST 60. Jack Sheeks or some of the Indy guys would know for sure.

Had a pile of old  Flying Muddles magazines fall out of the sky .

They all refer to a S. T. 60 Powered ship , and one says its 120 % up .

as 120 x 120 = 144 , thatd be the AREA , 120%'s Linear .

I remember Bob's Nobler with the ST/46 in it. One year the nats was at very high altitude and he put a 46 in one of his Fox powered Noblers. All the holes did not line up so he used screws for two of the holes. Yes he really did that as I saw the plane at his flying area when I did a two day layover in Dallas so I could go and watch one of there contests. I was on my way back from Phoenix Az to Tampa Fl.
I built several Gieseke Noblers with ST/46 motors in them. I did enlarge the Stab Elevator to 25%
Here is one of them. They fly very well.

Nice magazine, especially for the article on Lauri Malila's #10.
I'm sure the Swedish text can be copied and pasted into google translate...
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

The ST 60 Gieseke Nobler was basically Glen Meador and Lou Dudka's Eagle/Matrix design, made to have the typical Gieseke Nobler "look". He flew it at the 1985 Nats in Westover. I think the plane's mentioned in the issue of Stunt News that memorialized Bob, either by Glen or Lou (don't have the issue handy).

A picture from Ted Fancher's column in the April, 1988 issue of Model Aviation.  Interesting caption.

I'm pretty sure that that is the Nobler I mentioned in 2014 that I saw years ago at Jack Sheeks shop in Indy.  I used to drive down to his shop and shoot the bull with him every couple of weeks or so when I was younger and I remember seeing that big Nobler. He told me that it had belonged to Bob and I'm sure he said it was a ST 60 in the nose.  It was hanging on the front wall close to the door as you walked in.  I remember thinking how awesome it looked.  Someone should ask one of the Indy guys.  I'm sure someone would remember it.

Something else I just realized was that articals was 1988. That's the same time frame when I would go down to Jacks often. I know that for certain because my oldest daughter was born in 99 and and that's about the same time I dropped out of the hobby.  The first time.  Lol.  Rick Henry.

This photo seemed appropriate here. No wheel pants though.

Referring to the earlier posted drawing from Bob, Don McClave gave me a copy of this drawing and I drew up a set of plans based on this drawing and information that was in the 1969 Stunt News from an interview with Bob. All these measurements were put into these plans and came out good. My plans are only in pencil, and the plane is set up for an LA .46, but others can be substituted. If there is some interest in these plans I could draw them, ink and letter them and make them available.

Made a mistake here. I'm referring to the articles by Wynn Paul in the December 1976 and January 1977 of Model Aviation. My memory sometimes adjusts things in various places, its a constant battle but with reference to the magazines in print that I have, a few corrections can be made and hopefully clear things up a bit.

Not sure how I've never seen this thread before. Not really sure how I
stumbled across it today either! I do think I can add some useful info here
though. The plans that have been posted here were drawn/inked by me in
the late '90s. At that time Bob was flying what had evolved into a .60 sized
G Nobler/Bear. Though the name of the plane on the plans is Gieseke Nobler 97
it is more commonly referred to as a Bear 97; or just Bear. About twenty
years ago almost every competitive flyer in the North Texas are had built at
least one of these. Doug, Mike Scott, Phil Nickles and myself all had at least one.
Some are still flying! By this time Bob had progressed to pipe motors and these
planes had OPS, PA, and even Irvine RE motors in them.

The pic of the red Bear 46 was built by my brother Doug. The two most inboard
ribs are removed, which leaves a wing are of 620 sq in. The wingtips are more
traditionally shaped; like the Gieseke Nobler. The stab and elevators
are left at the same size on the Bear 97 plans. The number one key here: build
it light! Overall, a really good flying plane. The finished product is a really nice
flying and nice sized plane. Fits easily into almost any car! To build one, use the
Ultra Hobby Products '97 Bear plans leaving out the root ribs.

Not having any info, I made up my 46 sized by enlarging the Top Flite kit with a few changes that Bob said to do when I built the kit.  After 3 years, only 5 flights.  Lost field.

2022 is not that far away.  Using somewhat smaller planes, electric power, and learn how to use EVERY option you can work with.  Once you can do that -work up to a larger plane if it seems to get easier to fl well.

ps.  The key, once you've got a straight plane, it's easier to fly.
