Title: Fancherized Twister, Now N-30? Mine Is Completed!
Post by: Doug Burright on December 31, 2013, 07:06:17 PM
I had to build something from a kit, and decided on the SIG Twister. Having read so much about it being a fine airplane, I want something true.

Now, I see if it is "Fancherized", it becomes even better. One article that shows a Twister being Fancherized, is from 1986. The new year, 2014, makes that 30 years ago.

Does that mean my new, modded Twister will be Nostalgia 30 eligible? Does it even matter, since the Twister was okay, anyway?

On my way to stunt with the best of 'em!

Doug.

    2014 -1986 =  30? .................... or is that 28?

Ha ha! OOPS! Too many fingers slipped in there while I was counting. What a doof! I'll still build it as a Fancherized one, though. Nevermind...

And thanks for pointing that out - I would have had a hard time convincing CDs that my math is better than their math!

Classic? Neither the Twister or Banshee is old enough for Classic. They are N-30 legal. Is modifying allowed or not?

Whether Ted Fancher's mods are done may not matter. You're allowed to modify Classics, since there is no rule that allows DQ for mods. Is it the same for N30? Where do we look it up?  H^^ Steve

That's pretty much what I was trying to figure out... Is a Fancherized Twister legal to compete in N-30? If it is modded, does it qualify for that event?

I just made a mess of getting to the point, when I first posted this question.

Somebody will know...

I looked at the N30 topic above,  http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=13204.0 (http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=13204.0) but that doesn't seem to be the actual rules. It does indicate that the rules will be the same/similar to Classic, as I read it. I suppose they're on the PAMPA website, or maybe the AMA website?  :-[ Steve

I'm pretty close to the covering stage of construction , with the Fancherized Twister. The hobby shop had one arrive recently, so I got it. A couple of funny things...

The F.T. plan shows triplers on the starboard side of the fuselage, but to install them, would "box-in" the fuel tank, and the plans show an adjustable tank mount.

I installed a few shear webs on the main spars, too. There are 1/32" shear webs at the trailing edge sheeting- per Fancher.

I glassed the wing center section.

Really, I'm not trying to make it too heavy!

I will be powering it with a K&B .40. It seems to run nice, and is capable of being happy with many, different size propellers. That should make fine tuning the lap times easier.

Other people have shown pictures of their builds of this project, so I'll wait until completion, to show this plane.

It's done, and ready for flight! I'm moving the picture from the top, to down here.
