Don Herdman's N30s
« on: April 13, 2010, 03:52:13 PM »
Here are some pictures of grandpa's N30 legal planes, an XP-40, and his Minnow.  He's thinking of building his XP-40 when he gets all his other projects done in the shop.  Meanwhile, I want to build his Minnow.

Edit: I'm going to try to get him to provide some details on the airplanes, since he registered on the forum!

Thanks, matt!  I have been wanting to build a full fuselage Cosmic Wind (Minnow's brother) since the mid 1960's! LL~ LL~  I have been in touch with Keith Trostle who sent a copy of the Eagle plans which are similar to what I would like to build.  One day!  ;D

Matt,

Does your Granddad have those Minnow plans stashed somewhere, or do you plan to try to scale off the one on the wall?  I have a Shoestring and I've always liked those open pylon racing style airplanes.  I think you should do the Minnow.  You would have something unique.

Yeah he's got the plans somewhere!  I found them when I was rummaging through some stuff.  I know we got them, just not quite sure where.

If i were to do an N30 design, I would do his Minnow.  It's basically a Nobler restyled to his liking.  If I remember right, there was a plane on the cover of an old FM, and he liked it so much, he had to build an airplane that looked like it!

That plane had it's outboard wing taken off when he got back into it in the early 90s by flying into a lamp pole.  When he did that, he put a razorback on the plane, but he says he liked the bubble better and should have left it that way.
