Design Templates

My Fellow Modelers,
I am sharing here my templates of many stunt planes’ design which I drew over the years. Hope this would be somehow a helpful resource for your future control line modeling journeys.
Over the years, I had a long list of planes to build and fly, but did not have neither the high building and painting skills nor the time and funds for such projects. Thus, I was imagining the outline of the planes in my mind, which was disappearing quickly without even being captured. It was fun.
Later, I began to review different designs by rolling out plans, but that required a large area to do so. Therefore, I initiated to collect letter size (8.5"x11") plans in a three ring binder for more convenient access and quick view of designs while drinking my coffee. Subsequently, I started to draw letter size planes’ templates for the purpose of paint schemes and design studies. I noticed when I draw a plane, it takes me to a tour of showing the distinctive aspects of its visual design. Very satisfactory to me indeed. Hence, I decided to generate more design templates simply for the purpose of visual tour and design studies.
At the beginning of pandemic, I had more time to draw planes for hours daily. After a while, I noticed that WOW, I have been in different periods and places of control line modeling via my drawings. I drew many designs such as; OTS, modern, experimental, Europeans, classics and etc..
Recently, I thought gathering all these drawings somewhere but my computer could be a great archival source which could enable others to utilize these templates too. This actually makes me very happy. Therefore I decided to share them in "Stunt Hanger; Model Library" with fellow modelers.
How to use these PDF templates:
• Output in letter size B+W/color and fit to page in a home printer. As many as copies needed
• Mark the printed copy with, crayons, pencils or marker to implement the favorite pattern on a plane
• Computer users, place the template in to the desired program of design and drawing, then carry on to completion
• The final sheet could be the guide in painting the actual model
• Simply view the template to only study the visual appearance of a design
And, remember, these templates are NOT building plans (i.e., all of them have equal wing panels), even though they have been drew with high attention to details.
Although I have tried hard to avoid any mistakes on the process, but there might be still some missing issues such as name, typos, design, lines and etc. I count on you in helping me to correct all those issues. Also, please help me in expanding this collection further by generating additional designs templates.
My hat is off to all the designers (some are not with us anymore) and their exceptional channel of thinking of how to see this wing, stab + elev, rudder and fuse. Their effort is magnificent and significantly valued by me.
I would like to thank my many control line friends in helping me to locate plans and planes to draw and make this collection deeper. It’s greatly appreciated. Also special thanks to Keith Sandberg of Minneapolis Piston Poppers, my very first teacher, then my very dear friend and mentor Jose Modesto of NY Stunt Masters who taught me how to see the world.
Last, but not least, thanks to Sparky for providing and offering this digital gathering space.
I am going to upload these files as we go, hopefully you could download and archive them based on your own criteria. I personally organized them by designers’ name (people who have more than one design), then the planes’ name.

Great stuff!
in one of your posts above you listed one of Gene Schaffer's airplanes as the Stunt Machine-Hunt rendition. Actually I had nothing to do with that design. It was the first of Gene's twin rudder airplanes (before the Stunt Machine in 1972) and was designed in 1969 and flown at the 1970 Nats in Chicago (Glenview actually...). Gene did not name his planes in those days and so when Bill Simons first saw it and noted the large U-S-A on the left wing and the equally large A-M-A on the right wing he called it the Oosa-Amma. Gene hated that name at first, but that airplane was from that point on called the Oosa-Amma on the East Coast Stunt scene, and even Gene started calling it that eventually. So, if you can, please take off the
Hunt rendition" tag. I don't want any credit for something I didn't do.

It is such a thrill to see the myriad variations and designs. It's a bit of a shame to not be able to see the myriad color schemes but I am none the less happy and pleased. Awesome!

I didn't actually realise what these were for ( but suspected the idea ) until " when all else fails, read the instructions", which I have just done. I will be designing my future builds' colour schemes using your templates. Thank you very much Sina for this great effort.

What a tremendous resource you have given to the CL Aerobatics community.
I have some material that you might be interested in. Back in the 1960's, Pete Soule was the editor for the Round and Round column for Model Airplane News. For a period of about 6 months, his column showed small outline drawings of some of the "significant" stunt designs at that time including the Thunderbird, Nobler, Klapinski's Tempest, and others. These small drawings were based on the work by Jim Mayfield from Southern California who was one of the better fliers in that area at that time. Jim had prepared something like 40 or more line drawings to 1/8 scale of a wide variety of stunt ships, published and unpublished. These were all line drawings with no construction details that gave the name of the airplane, its designer, and year. I have a copy of those line drawings. You have some of those airplanes in what you have presented here, but some of these are not in your library.
If you would be interested in getting a copy of this collection, I would be glad to send you a copy. I also have a large number of small drawings of more stunt designs that have appeared in the magazines over the years that were not construction articles and are not in your listings. Most of these show dimensions. The sources include Model Airplane News, American Aircraft Modeler, Flying Models, Aeromodeller, the Aeromodeller Annual and some other sources. I can send you a copy of this material as well. In all, there are probably over 100 pages I could send you.
