Attached is an colored AutoCad rendition. It is a bigger version of the Primary Force with a 58" wing span and 644 sq. in. of wing area. Powered with either glow or electric. .46 to .51 glow, or E-Flighr to 25 along with a 5 cell 2700 mHl pack.
The P-Force XL has many new features such as, thicker wing, stabilizer triplets, wing or fuse mounted landing gear. The profile fuse is built-up that is very stiff and strong, and light weight. It resist tail twisting in ruff weather that is common to many profile fuselage models. This provides crisp, and sharp corners with a sold feel and grove.

The plans are close to being done, I have the prototype laser cut wing that I building to make sure everything fits as it should. If all goes well maybe April but I don't release kits until I'm sure they're good to go. I've had so many inquires about the XL, I posted a thread so people could see what it looks like.
What do you think about it and how does it look to you?

I'm not going to be building much other than PA ships for a while, so treat this as you would any other arm-chair coaching:
Having read a bunch of threads pertaining to profiles, and having competed with profiles here in the Pacific Northwest, I think you might want to consider making a 1/2" thick fuse version and a 3/4" fuse version, or include enough bits to make both. Why? Because if you put the extra 1/4" in the inner structure where it doesn't add much weight, the thicker fuse version will be a lot stiffer. In those parts of the world that allow it, it's what people will want.

Hi Allan,
The Primary Force you have built is outstanding and appears to be well done. My thinking on flaps is, they complicate the trimming process for most modelers. Also, the turn rate is as good (if not better) than many of classic or modern models. You can always add flaps to your P-Force and see what happens, but in my opinion, it will kill the turn rate and degrade the all around performance.
The P-Force XL has a number of improvements (and size does matter) light weight, proper airfoil, TVC, and HD control system. The LA 46 is ample power and is a hoot to fly, and pops a corner that has to be seen.

Know what you mean about popping a corner, my P-Force does also. On the XL, is wing constant chord or tapered ?

Hi Allan,
It is tapered, both the leading & trailing trailing edges. Glad you are happy with the corner on the P/F it's a great flying model. The XL is better for a lot of reasons, but mostly from lighter. weight and stiffness. The airfoil is thicker with a constant radius leading edge (same as P/F) with leading edge sheeting & cap strips. It is really stiff and robust both the wing and the fuselage. The fuselage takes a little longer to build because of it's balsa sheeted fuselage sides and built up warren-truss bracing (very light weight).

I found a big problem with the wing plan. I fixed the CAD drawing and I'm now having the plan reprinted to start building it again. I could have left it and changed it later but I'm doing this build for the instruction book and taking photos, I wanted the plan right.

Hi George,
My prototype foam wing model flies really well with a LA 46 and its not all that light at 54 ounces. I've changed to 11-1/2" X 4.25 three blade prop which is even better. The APC 12"X 3.75 two blade was working pretty good but the 3 blade made it really come to life.
Yea I'm really looking forward to start building the XL and see just where it winds up weight wise. My thinking now it should come in the 48 to 50 ounce range. Also, I'm going to try a different type of covering and painting method and see how that goes.

I'm debating on making a vacuum bagged carbon over foam control line model. Instead of going with my own design, using an established design seems like a good idea, as does going flapless....
That being said, the PF-XL seems like the perfect design to build in an all composite air frame. I'd be happy to buy a plan from you.
Please let me know when the plan will be available, Mike.

Hi Tim,
Things are at stoping point, with life gets in the way of things. My wife (Lois) has brain cancer and most of my time is used to take care of her. She has gone through all the treatments (chemo & radiation) with the Doctor telling us there is nothing further that they can do. As soon as I can I'll get back on this and get it done. The sales of the Primary Force are about all I can handle at the moment (still very strong).
The plans are close and I've even had the the parts Laser cut with some assembly started with a few photos taken. So pretty slow going at this point.

At this point it's all in the hands of the big guy upstairs. Lois is pretty low in spirits and wants it all to be over with, she is really worn out and dog tired. Nothing worse than sitting on my hands with nothing I can do to help her.

Yes I will sell kits and plans. I’ve been getting way behind with this stuff and the prototype will fly shortly then I can finish it up.
