Title: Derek Moran Line Clip Bender
Post by: James Lee on September 01, 2007, 07:48:09 PM
Just finished a run of the Line Clip bender  designed by Derek Moran.  This tool was featured in Stunt News May-June 2006.
Price will be $25.  I also have available the hard stainless wire that Derek used.  It comes in 12" pieces at $.50 each.   This is a Large Heavy 3/4" bolt!!  It's Heavy!!  be aware cause the shipping will be a bit more.  I will update that cost as soon as I get to the PO to check the cost.

I purchased one from Jim at Tulsa, and it works like a charm. It will be one of those tools that I don't know how I ever got along without.

Y'all buy a Clip Bender- if you don't think you need one, you do.  Jim does great work and is very conscientious.

I bought my clip bender from Jim at this years Nats. When I got home I bent several clips.

Nice tool.

I recommend it.

Got my bender and syringe. Best thing you can do for trimming your hard point handle and correct fuel fill for run time. Great job.

MM,

If you are thinking about getting the clip bender, it makes sense to include a dozen or more of the wire pieces Jim offers. It all becomes 'turnkey.' His wires, as he mentions, are the ones Derek designed the clip bender around, and have the strength you'll need.

A plus: I don't think anyone mentioned it in this thread, but the nut and bolt arrangement allows you to make clips in different lengths, so you can trim "neutral" by fitting a needed length at the needed "line" on your handle.

Mine has been one of the best investments I have made in hobby "tools".  I got several pieces of wire from Jim and I have made a bunch of clips.  So far, I have had all the ones needed to set neutral on my hard point handles.

Got my clip bender a couple days ago. I'm just now playing with it. Clip on right in pic is pretty easy to make but I think I need the overlaps a bit longer.
Can it make the style on the left? Obviously larger, but I prefer this style using an ink pen spring to keep it closed.
Maybe a video in use if the style on left can be done? I wasted one length of wire experimenting.

Thanks, Matt
