Title: We lost Roger Wildman today.
Post by: Allen Goff on November 22, 2017, 02:49:40 PM
This Thanksgiving will not be a happy one for me, Roger Wildman passed away this morning. Roger was my best friend and was one of the "Indiana gang". Mike McHenry and I went to his home this morning to say good by. I'll miss going to contest with him as well as the spirited  dart games Mike, Roger and I shared in his shop. He was a fantastic model builder, stunt & scale pilot and judge. Roger liked everyone and that's just one of the fine qualities that made him a class act. I know God has him in His hand. Good by my friend.

Blessings
Allen

I second that.  So sad.  Gentle winds Roger.

I am so happy that I talked to him Sunday!  He was his normal self during our conversation and that will give me much comfort as I miss him each time I fly.  The fearsome foursome has reduced to only a threesome and it will never be the same without Roger. :'(

We have lost another of those amazing modelers about whom you never hear a bad word. The gentlest and kindest of men, Roger  had nothing but friends. Can there be a more fitting epitaph...

Rest in God's Good Peace oh good and faithful servant, you deserve it.

Bob Hunt

So sorry to hear this. Roger was one of those people it only take two seconds to like. If you talk with Him for five minutes you know you have made a friend for life. That was Roger Wildman. He was a prince of a fellow. If you did not like Roger you could not like anybody. Rest in Peace.

This is very sad to hear, Roger was a great guy.  He will be missed.  I remember his Caprice that had the cancer ribbon on the rudder.  He had that about the time we found out Beth had breast cancer, I told him that meant a lot to us.  We are praying for his family and friends.

Allen, such sad news to hear of another stunt hero leaving us behind.  I did not know him that well but like stated he always had a smile and treated a person like had known them all his life.  Now he can rest in peace. :(

Talking and joking with Roger was always one of the things I enjoyed during my visits to Muncie for the NATS and FCM contests. Besides being a great guy Roger could build gorgeous airplanes!
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

New Rodger 40 years ago. I remember we were at a contest and were doing practice flights in the early morning. Rodger was flying over the parking area. The stunt judge comes and parks his large vehicular in the spot next to me. Rodger takes off from the same spot as before and does one lap and hits the back of the car and takes off the complete outboard wing. The thing keeps going for a few more laps.   We are laughing our heads off but Rodger stomp's the plane flat and then gets into a huge argument with guy. Then he stops and starts laughing with us.
It is still funny when I think about it.

I remember when I first got into stunt I would see his name and think, "That guy has a really cool name. WILDMAN!"  After meeting him and talking to him a few times at the nats it was very evident that he was a really nice and genuine person, and on heck of a craftsman.  I am very sadden to hear of his passing.  He will be missed.

Heaven has collected a real gem in Roger, he will surely be missed down here. A couple years ago at the Dayton contest he sat down next to one of Daytons finest stunt flyers Dave Waggoner who was struggling and using a wheelchair. Roger and Dave shared stories for a couple hours and and they both smiled and so much enjoyed each other's company. What a great hobby we all enjoy. Sadly we lost Dave this week also so it's going to be a lot tougher to win a stunt contest in heaven these days.

I am shocked to hear this.

Roger was one of the nicest people to talk to, and we had many conversations over the years. Roger also helped to preserve the memory of John Davis who was a very close friend of his, and like so many of us I had also know John a long time.

Roger and John are both in heaven for sure.  God speed Roger.

Life is much too short - I know Roger could have filled ten lifetimes enjoying the hobby we all share. I am just thankful I got to spend so much time at this years Nats laughing and cutting up with Roger. It is the nature of life we lose those we care about the most. Rest In Peace Roger, keep a chair next to the modeling table in Heaven for the rest of us. We will miss you until we see you again.

I only knew Roger in passing. having had conversations with him at Nationals.  He was just a really nice guy that you never forget.  I remember him going out of his way, coming over to my car to comfort me. as I grieved for a friend who I had just learned had inoperable cancer.  Roger....I will never forget your concern.  May God bless you. in your new mission.

So sorry to hear of Roger's passing. I , like many of you, met Roger years ago flying the midwest stunt contest circuit and occasional trips to the NATS.  So many of you have a picture of Roger in your mind. I am always flipping through old model magazine looking for one thing or another and enjoying the history.
On one of these occasions, I ran across a picture of Roger Wildman at a contest some where back in the 60's and it had his name in the caption. But I would have know him without it due to his signature "high and tight" crew cut, and I believe he was in uniform (Air Force?) I remember saying out loud, "Damn! Roger hasn't changed at all in all these years!"
My sincerest sympathies to his family and close friends,
  Dan McEntee

I'm very sad to see another of the fine people I've read about and seen in the model-plane literature pass on and wish I had known him.
