Title: Richard von Lopez - Combat Flyer Extrodinaire
Post by: Paul Smith on October 08, 2015, 08:07:26 AM
I have been notified that Richard von Lopez, noted combat flyer from California, passed passed away following an ongoing battle with cancer.

As a Michigander, I only met Rick at a few major contests.  I hope people how know more will weigh in.

Sorry to hear that.  Never met the man, but I built a couple of the Midwest Matador kits powered with Fox combat specials.  Very good plane!

I am saddened to hear that.  I never met him, but was always reading about him, and I read the column he once wrote in one of the magazines (Flying Models??).  We are losing way to many of the stars of C/L!

I've been 'out of it' for a year and a half, back problems. Get this: "O.K., Doc...maybe I can finish my Team racers now..."
Couldn't even sit for more than 15, 20 minutes! (it only hurt when I'd build!)

Got on the Hanger today, read about Von Lopez...shocker. Used to visit with him at the Bay Area contests, between rounds...Thought we'd have him forever. I'm saddened.

Godspeed, Rich.
