I just got a call from Dales daughter that Dale passed away early this morning. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. Dale was a very special guy.

Oh, boy....another one.  Dale was a good friend who once invited me to his home to see his 1949 Nats-winning B-25 as well as his collection of Mono-Line Speed ships.  He also flew a Mono-Line T-Bird at the first VSC.  A low-key, humble and unassuming person, he once held most CL Speed records along with team mates Clem & Beasely.

Very sorry to hear this news.

I'm sure sorry to hear that Dale has died. He was a great man in this hobby and a regular good guy.
He spent a lot of effort with kids in the 60's and 70's trying to keep modeling in the youth forefront.
I'll miss him.

These are not very good pictures, but I thought I would post them in memory of Dale. These were taken in 2006 at the Smoky Hill museum where Dale had some of his planes on display.

I enjoyed talking with him on several occasions.  A good guy.  The Stanzel Museum in Schulenburg, TX, has a number of beautiful display airplanes built by Dale.

One of my favorite pictures of Dale back on the farm near Salina Kansas with his Atwood Super Champion powered Over Easy.

7:25 pm, MST:  just got a phone call from Joe Kirn, Dale's son.  He wanted to be sure everyone knew.  Needless to say, it was a very emotional call.

One the best memories I have from the LA area was being around and learning from guys like Dale Kirn. We flew at Whittier Narrows and will always remember him. He was special and will be missed. At one contest we had Dale Kirn and Bob Palmer at the Sepuldeva Basin flying site.

He deserves a missing man formation next time I fly.

Dale was one of the nicest gentlemen I have ever met. The world was a better place for him being in it and a sadder place with out him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and close friends. I will miss him so very much. May the wind always be at his back. We love you Dale.

Very sorry to hear about the passing of another great modeler.  God speed Dale!

I first met Dale at a contest in Topeka Kansas in about 1959'  I was trying desperately to fly speed with a slightly scaled down Dizzy Boy and a K&B Green Head 29.
I couldn't get the thing to run long enough to get a time.  Dale came over to me and asked if he coud look at the engine.  Well to make a long story short He took it apart and replaced the piston and sleeve with one he had reworked, gave me some fuel, and the next flight set the second highest B-Speed time of the day.
I went home one happy kid.  A true Gentleman...and very nice man.

This news has caught me barely able to compose this. Dale was all that has been expressed, and then some. A true inovator, and a very selfless man. He will be missed by many. God Speed Dale. H^^

This is very sad news for me.  First met Dale in 64 at the Texas NATS.   Then it was off and on at later NATS.   What a privilage it was to know the man.   He is missed. :'(

I got to know Dale over the last five years, he was an honored member of the Knights of the Round Circle.  The boards members meet once a month for dinner before the meeting and Dale was always there.  He was our specified "I second the motion man" for anything passed by the club.  We also hold a contest in his honor every year the Joust, or as it is more formally known the "Sir Dale Kirn Joust".  The meetings and the contest just won't be the same without him, he was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.

Dale was a true gentleman and a pleasure to be around. Anyone who knew Him was truly blessed. Dale had Alzheimer’s for the last four years of His life and remained a gentleman to the end. He died peaceably in His sleep.

It is with great sorrow to hear of Dale's passing.  He is truly one of modelling's greats.  I first met Dale at the 1955 Nats at Los Alamitos NAS and remember the meeting well.  I have kept in contact with Dale through the years on many levels.  I particularly remember an almost weekely set of telephone conversations about 1/2 A Proto Speed, which was an event that Dale started.  I never was able to attend one of the Mololine demonstrations that Dale put on all over the country but hope to finish some day a replica of the monline T-Bird that Dale used in these demo's.  I am saddened that I did not finish it before his passing.

God Speed and fair winds Dale Kirn, you will be missed by all of those that have had the honor of knowing you.
