A little digging found this.  Stunt in the mainstream

The original article as printed with pictures is on pages 129-134.

I chuckled at the comment that during he season he laid off hard liquor and stuck to beer...there was quite the beer selection in early 60s Milwaukee. 

I was also impressed with the quality of writing in that era.  It was technically correct, not patronizing and no comments about loop d loops or toy airplanes.

I suspect that the way the writer represented our event was heavily influenced by the way Mr Gialdini represented our event.   A fitting tribute even after almost 60 years.

I googled the author, because the name sounded familiar. 

The author is an award winning sports journalists and marathon trainer.  He would get the discipline and preparation necessary.
