Bill Allen
« on: March 16, 2015, 06:34:06 PM »
We lost another great modeler here in the Midwest. Bill Allen was a great mentor to me and anyone who might have known him.  Bill loved the hobby and did some amazing things with his "Allenized" twisters.  He was an incredible individual who never got tired of helping others.  Bill would send me clippings and articles which proved to be a very big help understanding construction and trimming. These would always come "snail mail" as Bill would seldom send an e-mail. After some health issues Bill stopped flying, but continued to always be there for us and supporting our club the best he could. He was helping to judge stunt at last fall's Treetown contest and did so very well.  He always had something to offer to help improve scores.  My most sincere condolences to his family, Bill will be missed.

This is very sad news. I started competing as a teenager in the Chicago area in the mid '70s. Bill Allen always took the time to answer my questions, no matter how elementary or absurd. I truly appreciated that he took me seriously and afforded me the same respect as the "big guys". Five or so years ago, I saw his name start appearing in stunt columns, so I looked him up. I told him I just wanted to thank him for being a positive influence during my formative years as a modeler. With our renewed friendship, he would occasionally send me clippings or order things from the hobby shop where I worked. I will truly miss him.
