Always wanted to try
« on: May 15, 2018, 11:16:29 AM »
I may be a bit blind, but I don't see an "into" area, so here's my intro and how I started!

I'm T.J. Vieira, and fly with the Dayton Buzzin' Buzzards.  I got my start because, well, since I was a kid I always wanted to give it a shot!  So, I bit the bullet, and went for it :)

I'm only three flights in so far, complete with my first BEAUTIFUL pinpoint landing, spinner first in to the circle!  She's all fixed up, and may be flying again tonight :)

So, just wanted to say "Hi"!

Happy you are joining the fun.   The Dayton club has been around a long time.   I was entered in F2C racing at the 76 Dayton NATS.   DQ'd because my team mate didn't show.   Remember it is supposed to be fun. H^^

Well, I WAS flying a Sig SkyRay on .015 60' lines with an EVO36 on an 11x4 prop...  I turned it in to a kit Tuesday night due to picking up the handle upside down.....

It'll be completely rebuilt, as soon as I get around to making a BOM for the wood needed!

I have a Galaxy that will be flown on a fox35, and a profile nobler that is going to use an LA46!  Galaxy should be up next week.  the Nobler after a few more (successful) flights under the belt.

T.J.,

WELCOME!!!

Prep before launch or takeoff MUST include the following:

Make sure the line connectors are not 'twisted over' and are secure.

Lift the lines from the ground to be sure they are not snagged on anything.

Run through the control motions: give it UP and be sure the controls go the right way. Same for DOWN. (You DID check that the controls are at NEUTRAL when you're handle is in a comfortable position, right?)

Make sure your launcher KNOWS your launch signal!

Prepare to move back a bit in case the model starts to turn into the circle.

Relax, and let the model takeoff on its own unless it NEEDS a small help input - stress SMALL, as small as gets it done.

Find a comfortable neutral for level flight and enjoy a few laps that way.

Picky? Not really. The model you save may be your own...

Lou,

yup, lessons learned!  did all of that last week, four flights, and came back with a model in one piece!  hahahaha.  Well, save the two props I "modified" during takeoff and landing...

That's awesome T.J. I kind of figured you'd been flying for years. Good job entering the Nats too. I hope to make it for my first time next year.
