I'm looking at either a Badass 2826, or one of the Badass 35mm motors, probably a 3520.
The 2826 -- once I got enough air flowing through it -- works well in an Atlantis (Impact pre-clone) of similar size and 64 ounces.
The 3520 would require some surgery to get it to fit -- I'd pretty much have to whack the nose off of the plane and go with a bigger spinner. I'm reluctant to go to such lengths.
Who's got experience with the Badass motors out there? What do y'all think?

Three of us here use the 3515-710. Shorter than the 20 with more than enough "umph"

What Ken says. That's what I run. It works great. If you front mounted and used one of Bob Hunt's mounts or just make one similar you would be able to switch between all those motors and more if you wanted to experiment. But my bet is you end up with the 3515-710 in the end.

I’ve run then both BA & Cobra 2826 and they are great, they like the 5 cell batteries and perform very well with lots of power and reserve left in the battery. I’ve also have the BA 3515 installed in a new model but haven’t flown it much yet (snow is too deep yet lol).
However biased on others I think it will be a good choice as well, however, it is larger electric motor, so far it works great on either 5 or 6 cell packs. I understand you are limited on space in your model without a total rebuilding the front end. I would be install the BA 2826 and go flying and have fun. You might want to consider building a new model for the 3515-710 motor.

That's my plan.
I fly in the Pacific Northwest, where if you fly Expert you're surrounded by molded-fuselage semi-scale warbirds that all have lots of room for a large-diameter motor. If I can't use those guys as an example I'm not doing it right.

You just described Dallas in the Gieseke/Rabe era. Now it is back to normal and it is you guys have to contend with several US and world champions along with the entire F2B team at your local contests! I AM NOT jealous!

You could always come to the Northwest Regionals; bulk out our contest a bit.
Assuming that we don't have to take yet another rain check for fire or plague or whatever is next.

My flying partner Rick Sawicki flies his with an axi 2826/12 and has for many years on 4S. It flies the plane competatively and with authority. I use the same power system in an SV-11 with the same results.

With much prodding from my East Coast friends (Will DeMauro, Joe Daly, and Jose Modesto...) I switched from a 2826-10 motor to the BA 3515-710 motor and a TP 5S 2,800 mAh battery and never even thought of going back to the smaller diameter motors. Do yourself a big favor and go with the 3515-710 KV BadAss.

Chris Rigotti and Mike Scott convinced me to make the same switch. Better everything and having over 30% headroom even on a calm day - priceless.

I run an Eflite 15 with a 4s 2800mah, if I were to go bigger what do you recommend.

Well, the difference between BadAss and the others is the curved magnets bringing greater efficiency. ex. BA3515 with a few grams less approximate power than COBRA 3520.
I don't know if there is another engine with these magnets.
I have used the BadAss 3515/710 for over 600 flights with intact bearings.
