Wheel pants vs. bare wheel drag
« on: March 13, 2015, 07:39:14 PM »
Does anyone have interchangeable gear that has both wheel pants and bare wheels that can
get data on difference in battery use for each?  Curious in difference.

I calculated wheel drag.  I'm afraid it's not much.  I can dig out the calculation and send it to you if you like.

Wheel pats have little less cd, I thing 0,25 vs 0,22 but crossection with pants is larger, so the drag is aproximately the same.

In any case I did not see any difference in consumption, it is certainly less then difference due to air pressure, temperature etc.

Hi Gang,
But crooked wheel pants can sure mess up the trim!

Ask Randy Powell!  He made some really super-zoot thing with wheel pants about a foot long that crashed on the first outing when one got cockeyed.

Does the turbulence from wheels vs. wheel pants make a difference in the smoothness of flying?

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
